My dear brothers and sisters,?
As we near the end of another blessed month of Ramazan, I am reminded of the mercy this month exudes in bringing people together.??

???????????? ????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ????? ?????? ????? ????????? ??? ?????????? ??????????? ????????????
In the Noble Qur¡¯an, Surah Al-Baqarah, ??????????????????? said:?
¡°Fasting was prescribed to you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may achieve righteousness.¡±??
This verse from the Noble Qur¡¯an reminds Muslims that the message of Islam, is a continuum of righteousness.??

Fasting was prescribed for every Prophet that was sent before our beloved Prophet Mohammed ? as well.? With the common goal of achieving righteousness, mercy, and compassion.?

In the Noble Qur¡¯an, Surah Al-Anbya, ?????????????????? said:?
¡°And We have not sent you, other than as a Mercy to all the worlds.¡±?
To ¡°ALL THE WORLDS¡±. Not just to Muslims, not just to humankind, but the entire universe.?
The Prophet Mohammed ? said:??
¡°Be merciful. For those who do, they will find ?????????????????? to be merciful and compassionate with them.¡±?
And the Prophet ? was the most exalted example of mercy, of compassion. He was a leader like no other.??

My dear brothers and sisters,?
Leadership is entrenched in the ability to look forward, the ability to rise above bitterness, in the ability to have mercy, especially upon those who have wronged you.?
After the Prophet ? was expelled from Makkah, he travelled over 400km to the city of Madinah. The residents of Madinah waited anxiously for his arrival, to hear what his first message to the city¡¯s inhabitants would be.??
The crowd that had gathered wondered whether the Prophet ? was going to speak about seeking vengeance, his pain, and his suffering, or the sorrow that he had endured and that which had forced him to leave his homeland.??
Amongst the crowd was a prominent Jewish Rabbi, Abdullah ibn Salam. Abdullah ibn Salam narrates that upon arrival to the city of Madhinah, the Prophet ? said to the citizens of the city: ¡°Spread peace, share food and increase in proximity to your Lord by praying at night while others are asleep.¡±?
Regardless of the events that were happening around the Prophet ?, or what he and his companions had endured or left behind, his message was about peace and creating a community based on that foundation of peace, security and social justice. His message was about mercy and compassion.??
My dear brothers and sisters,??
Several years later, the Prophet ? led the Muslim ummah to one of the greatest moments of victory – the conquest of Makkah.??
This time, the citizens of Makkah waited anxiously within the city limits, to hear the words of the Prophet ?. Waited anxiously for their fate. Afterall, Makkah was the city that had expelled the Prophet ?, the citizens of Makkah had opposed and fought the Prophet ? for over 20 years.??
But they need not have worried. When the Prophet ? arrived, he told the residents of Makkah, that they are free. That there would be no recompense for what they had previously done.??
That, my dear brothers and sisters, is compassion. That compassion, that mercy, the ability to rise above, that, is leadership.???
My dear brothers and sisters,?
As humans, we have a responsibility to one another.?

In the Noble Qur¡¯an, Surah Al-Isra ????????????????? mentions:?
¡°And We have certainly honored humankind.¡±??
Humankind has been honored as a whole, by virtue of being human. The Prophet ? taught us respect for the human soul. Respect for each other, respect for humanity.??

In this month of mercy, Muslims are also reminded to be generous, and increase their charitable acts ¨C Zakat ¨C one of the five pillars of Islam, an integral part of Muslim faith.?
In this month, Muslims are obliged to pay Zakat-al-Fitr, to the poor and hungry, before the commencement of Eid-al-Fitr.??
It is an act of purification and repentance. One that brings you closer to ??????????????????.?
Zakat-Al-Fitr also plays an important communal function. The act brings us closer to the poor and needy in our communities. Developing the bonds within our community. Training us to be more generous, more compassionate, more merciful ¨C towards those less fortunate.??
My dear brothers and sisters,?
A Muslim who believes in ??????????????????, the Giver of Peace ¨C a Muslim who seeks peace and safety in their life, will make every effort to ensure that those around him are at ease.?
We cannot seek tranquility from ?????????????????? while infringing on the rights of others and hurting their sentiments and feelings.??
Those who engage in this manner are merely serving their own desires, their own self-interest. They will not find serenity or safety in this world, or hereafter.?
Ramazan is a time to train our tongues to refrain from slander, a time to think of others, and the consequences of our actions.??
Let us learn, let us pray that this Ramazan, we receive forgiveness from all those who we have hurt with our actions and our words.??
My dear brothers and sisters,?
Our hope is that our efforts to spread peace and love among others should be rewarded with a place in His paradise.?

¡°You will not enter Paradise until you have faith, and you will not have faith until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves¡± (Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim).??
In this month of mercy, we implore ?????????????????? to soften our hearts so that we may find in our hearts that mercy and compassion for others, that was taught by the Prophet ?.?
May Allah forgive us for all our flaws and adorn our hearts with mercy, peace and compassion. Amin. Ya Rabbal ¡®Alamin.?

Ramazan meets us at a difficult time. Conflict rages on. Poverty persists. Human suffering is plenty. Many times, we feel hopeless about the things we cannot control, we feel impatient for things to change.??
But among the many things Ramazan teaches, is that of patience. Patience to go without food and drink. The patience to withstand temptation. The patience to avoid sin. The patience to endure. A lesson that we can apply in every walk of life.??
We need to keep faith at all times. Islam teaches us to have faith, to have trust in ?????????????????? but at the same time to work our hardest, to give our best.??

In the Noble Qur¡¯an, Surah Al-Imran ?????????????????? decrees:?
¡°Do not falter or grieve, for you will have the upper hand, if you are true believers.¡±?
And so, while we feel helpless about the things we cannot control, we must continue to work at what we can, do what we can. Be it in our personal lives, or on the international stage. We must continue to strive, working for change, hoping for change.??
My dear brothers and sisters,?
Ramazan is the time for togetherness. The time to invest in the ties that bind us, the ties that nourish us ¨C our families, our friends, our neighbours.??
We meet. We break our fast together. We cherish in the warmth of our communities. We support and help each other.??
So that we may feel each other¡¯s pain and suffering – another important lesson of Ramazan.??
We here are lucky. We have plenty of food. We are blessed with opportunities. Blessed with choice.??
But there are many who are not. Many who suffer.??
While we go without food and drink during daylight in Ramazan – there are many for whom this is their daily life.??
While we are safe and content in our beds at night – there are many who have no peace, who are always in danger.??
Ramazan teaches us to empathise with those less fortunate than us. Wherever they may be. Whomever they may be. For we are one ¨C as human beings.??
????? ??????? ??????? ?????? ??????? ???????? ??????????? ?????? ?????????????? ??? ???????????? ??????????????? ??????????????? ?????? ????????? ????? ???????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ???? ??????? ????????? ??????????? ????????????
The Prophet ? said, ¡°The parable?of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.¡± (narrated by Al-Nu¡¯man ibn Bashir)?
Today, we must remember those who are suffering the violence of war and conflict. Who perish in poverty and difficult situations.??
In every such situation, it is the underprivileged, the women, the elderly, the disabled, and the children, that suffer the most. Let us include them in our prayers this Ramazan. Let us resolve to do all we can, to make their lives better.??
My dear brothers and sisters,??
We can find peace, we can find solace around the world, when we think of our global community as one. When we care for one another, across borders, across the oceans, as we would care for our closest.??
The global, transboundary challenges of our time can only be solved when we acknowledge the consequences of our actions on others. When we have faith in the ties that bind us ¨C in our common humanity. When we have trust in the systems, we have put in place to prevent catastrophe, to prevent conflict, and encourage dialogue. When we have confidence in each other. When we have mercy in our hearts for one another.??
This Ramazan, let us pray for a better world. A more inclusive world. A peaceful world. Let us pray for empathy. Let us pray for our common humanity.??
I conclude with this and send prayers of blessings and peace upon our Prophet ? as ?????????????????? commanded:?
