The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ms.?Katr¨ªn?Jakobsd¨®ttir,?the Prime Minister of Iceland, on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon.

The President of the General Assembly?commended Iceland for its strong support for multilateralism?and?for leading by example on?the humanitarian front?by taking in refugees from Ukraine.?

The President of the General Assembly also?briefed?Prime Minister?Jakobsd¨®ttir?on?the?priorities?of his Presidency of Hope, especially in matters pertaining to the empowerment of women?and youth as well as?the fight against climate change.

Prime Minister?Jakobsd¨®ttir?welcomed the opportunity to discuss Iceland¡¯s foreign policy and?expressed concern about?the?growing sources of pressure points for multilateralism, such as the war in Ukraine and?the food and energy crises.?

The Prime?Minister?commended?President Shahid¡¯s?environmental priorities. She also talked about her?expectations?from?the ongoing Ocean Conference.
