GA WEEK AHEAD

On Monday, 11 July, the General Assembly will resume its election to fill the last vacant seat of the Economic and Social Council. That’s at 3PM.

 

There will also be action on two draft resolutions.

 

One related to the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. A draft resolution requests the Secretary-General to submit a report to the 78th session of the General Assembly.

 

The other resolution is on strengthening connectivity between Central and South Asia.

 

KISWAHILI DAY

Today is the World Kiswahili Day.

 

In a video message, the President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, highlighted the importance of Kiswahili as a language of global communication and its importance in multiculturalism.

 

The President also linked the importance of Kiswahili with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals… and acknowledged its contribution to peacebuilding and liberation struggles of Southern Africa and Africa in general.
