The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, is in Riga, Latvia today.

 

He called on President Egils Levits. The meeting took place at the Riga Castle. The courtesy call touched on strengthening relations between the work of the Government, the 蘑菇视频 General Assembly and his Presidency of Hope.

Also today, President Shahid had meetings at the Parliament, and visited the Riga Technical University. There is more online and on social media.

 

Following Latvia, President Shahid heads this Saturday to Georgia. He will then visit Armenia. You will have detailed media advisories. ??

VETO INITATIVE

 

Back here in New York…

 

The General Assembly today holds a debate in connection with the most recent use of the veto in the Security Council.

A veto was cast on 8 July under the agenda item “The situation in the Middle East”.

In President Shahid’s absence, his Vice-Presidents are overseeing the General Assembly. This morning, it is the Deputy Permanent Representative from Bangladesh, Mr. Monwar Hossain.

 

This afternoon, it will be the Deputy Permanent Representative of Costa Rica, Ms. Maritza Chan.
