PGA Shahid to speak at the Non-Aligned Movement Meeting in Belgrade<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Abdulla Shahid will arrive in Serbia tomorrow for the last part of his first official trip since taking office.<\/p>\n

The PGA will speak at the opening of the High-Level Commemorative Meeting to mark the 60th<\/sup> Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).<\/p>\n

He was invited by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia.<\/p>\n

Mr. Shahid will meet the Prime Minister of Serbia, H.E. Ms. Ana Brnabi\u0107 and several government officials. He will also attend a meeting with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Country Team and speak to young people and representatives of women\u2019s groups.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The PGA\u2019s delegation to Serbia includes a Senior Advisor, a Digital Media Communications Consultant, his Executive Secretary and a Security Liaison Officer. All travels costs are being covered by the PGA\u2019s Trust Fund and the Government of the Republic of Serbia.<\/p>\n

President Shahid congratulates winners of Nobel Peace Prize 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Abdulla Shahid congratulates the winners of this year Nobel Peace Prize journalists Ms. Maria Ressa, the co-founder of the news Site Rappler, from the Philippines, and Mr. Dmitry Muratov, co-founder and editor of the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, from Russia.<\/p>\n

The Nobel Committee highlighted their \u201cefforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PGA believes that a free press is a fundamental pillar of transparency and of democracy. He says that: \u201cThe basic desire for democratic liberties, including access to honest journalism can never be extinguished.\u201d<\/p>\n

GA to take action on draft resolution about right to vote for three countries<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Monday, 11 October, the General Assembly will take action on draft resolution (A\/C.5\/76\/L.2) on article 19.<\/p>\n

Based on the report of the Committee on Contributions, chapter V, the Fifth Committee approved without a vote the draft resolution to be considered by the GA on 11 October, according to which the failure of Comoros, S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe and Somalia to pay the full minimum amount necessary to avoid the application of Article 19 of the Charter was due to conditions beyond their control and decides that they shall be permitted to vote in the General Assembly until the end of its 76th\u00a0 session.<\/p>\n
