Abdulla Shahid, met with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization on 11 February.<\/p>\n<p>The President and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-WTO Secretary General exchanged views on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy, and\u00a0on\u00a0the tourism sector.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the General Assembly expressed concern regarding the impact on developing countries that are heavily dependent on tourism, including many vulnerable Small Island Developing States and countries in Africa. He recalled the\u00a0Houlhuashi\u00a0Dialogue held in November, during which\u00a0several Ambassadors called for\u00a0dialogue in the General Assembly between\u00a0Member States and other key stakeholders to ensure the tourism sector is given due consideration as a key driver for a sustainable and green recovery from the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The President and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-WTO Secretary General\u00a0agreed to work jointly on a\u00a0special high-level thematic event on recovery of the tourism sector,\u00a0focused on sustainability and resilience, which\u00a0the President of the\u00a0General Assembly\u00a0will convene during the resumed part of the seventy-sixth session.<\/p>\n<p>11 February<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the General Assembly, H.E.
