\nUnited Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly today adopted a resolution on Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Due to the legal nature of this resolution, the resolution needed two-thirds of a majority of yes\/no votes to pass. Of those, 141 Member States voted yes and five voted no.<\/p>\n

Ninety-six countries co-sponsored the resolution. A copy of the resolution is available at https:\/\/undocs.org\/en\/a\/es-11\/L.1 <\/a><\/p>\n

In line with the resolution adopted today, the 11th Emergency Special Session is now temporarily adjourned. It can be resumed upon the written request of Member States.<\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, spoke to the press after the adoption. He said the following:<\/p>\n

\u201cResolution ES-11\/1 passed\u00a0today\u00a0with the support of\u00a0141\u00a0Member States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u00a0reflects the international community\u2019s grave concerns about\u00a0the ongoing situation in Ukraine\u00a0and reiterates the call for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered access for humanitarian support, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Specifically, the Resolution demands a cessation in the use of force and the withdrawal of all military from Ukraine. It points to the\u00a0principles set forth in\u00a0the Charter\u00a0of the United Nations\u00a0and the Declaration on Friendly Relations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I join Member States in expressing concern about \u2018reports of attacks on civilian facilities such as\u00a0residences, schools and hospitals, and of civilian casualties, including women, older persons, persons with disabilities, and children.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I also share concerns about \u2018the\u00a0deteriorating humanitarian situation in and\u00a0around Ukraine, with an increasing number of internally displaced persons and\u00a0refugees in need of humanitarian assistance.\u2019 I\u00a0thus\u00a0welcome the\u00a0$1.7\u00a0billion\u00a0humanitarian\u00a0appeal launched\u00a0yesterday and call on\u00a0the international community to support it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As requested by Member States in the resolution, I look forward to receiving, in 30-days, the report of the\u00a0Emergency Relief Coordinator\u00a0on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine\u00a0and on the humanitarian response.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As President of the General Assembly, and in line with the resolution adopted today, the 11th Emergency Special Session is now temporarily adjourned. I stand ready to resume the Session upon the request of Member States.<\/span><\/p>\n
