\nSPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ABDULLA SHAHID<\/strong>
\nUnited Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n

OUR COMMON AGENDA<\/strong><\/p>\n

I will begin with the General Assembly Hall. Today is the start of the fifth and final \u201cOur Common Agenda\u201d thematic consultation. The theme is \u201cEnhancing International Cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, the President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, noted that as we strengthen international cooperation to meet our common objectives, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development must remain our guiding compass.<\/p>\n

He said that we must embrace the interlinks between sustainable development, peace, and human rights. Through strengthening the three pillars of the organization, we can build stable and resilient communities that are better equipped to uphold peace and attain prosperity.<\/p>\n

Following today\u2019s plenary meeting on Our Common Agenda, there will be two fireside chats tomorrow. I will include the full program with today\u2019s noon briefing notes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

LLS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Later this morning, President Shahid met with his Board of Advisers on the LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS. These groups include the 91 most vulnerable Member States in reaching the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on upcoming recovery-focused events: on commodity markets on 31 March, sustainable tourism on 4 May, and a joint General Assembly-ECOSOC event on financing for sustainable development on 31 May.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

YOUTH <\/strong><\/p>\n

The President will also meet today with the Secretary-General\u2019s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change.<\/p>\n

On the topic of youth, the President yesterday brought together his HOPE Fellows and the Obama Foundation Fellows.<\/p>\n

In it, the President says that he would not be surprised if one of the people sitting around the table one day becomes the Secretary-General, or the President of the General Assembly, or the President of a country.<\/p>\n

WOMEN JUDGES<\/strong><\/p>\n

And today is the first International Day of Women Judges. Our Office recognizes the contributions that women judges play in implementing and strengthening the rule of law around the world.<\/p>\n

By their mere presence, women judges enhance the legitimacy of courts, sending a powerful signal that courts are open and accessible to those who seek recourse to justice.<\/p>\n
