The President of the 76th<\/sup>\u00a0Session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Immigration of Antigua and Barbuda Mr. Chet Greene. They exchanged views on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and other global challenges on small vulnerable States including Antigua and Barbuda, particularly the impact on the tourism sector, a mainstay of the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

The President briefed the Minister on progress against his five priorities, emphasizing initiatives in support of rebuilding sustainably. In this regard, he briefed on plans for upcoming high-level thematic debates on sustainable tourism, debt sustainability, and environment. The Minister welcomed the initiatives and pledged the support of Antigua & Barbuda.<\/p>\n

The President and the Minister also discussed issues of importance to Small Island Developing States. In this regard, the Minister welcomed the establishment of the high-level panel of experts on the multi-dimensional vulnerability index for SIDS and stressed the importance of the MVI for small vulnerable countries in light of several on-going multi-dimensional challenges.<\/p>\n
