ECOSOC YOUTH FORUM <\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, today addressed the ECOSOC Youth Forum.<\/p>\n

Speaking via video message, President Shahid said the world today is confronted with multiple crises \u2013 from climate change and biodiversity loss, to inequality, COVID and conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we are to meaningfully make progress on any of these issues \u2013 progress that is sustainable, that endures for decades to come \u2013 then youth must be part of that process. They must own it,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the ECOSOC Youth Forum is a unique opportunity to bring together youth representatives, governments, and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ System to benefit from the perspectives of young people.<\/p>\n

Such inter-generational conversations should be routine, not only here in the United Nations, but across the globe, as a regular feature of consultations for policy making and decision-making, the President said.<\/p>\n

MIGRATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to the General Assembly\u2026<\/p>\n

Member States today hold intergovernmental consultations related to the International Migration Review Forum. This is the third round of consultations to finalize the Progress Declaration. The Forum will be held at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly starting on 17 May. It will be preceded by a one-day informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing on 16 May.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Rabab Fatima, the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh and\u00a0Ambassador Olivier Maes, the Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, are the co-facilitators of the International Migration Review Forum.<\/p>\n

SIDS INDEX<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also today, the High-level Panel on the multi-dimensional vulnerability index for Small Island Developing States is briefing Member States on its work.<\/p>\n

The co-chairs are Mr. Gaston Browne, the Prime Minster of Antigua and Barbuda; and Ms. Erna Solberg, the Prime Minister of Norway.<\/p>\n
