{"id":265458,"date":"2022-05-05T19:39:25","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T23:39:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/76\/?p=265458"},"modified":"2022-05-11T19:41:26","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T23:41:26","slug":"press-briefing-by-spokesperson-5-may-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/76\/2022\/05\/05\/press-briefing-by-spokesperson-5-may-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Briefing by Spokesperson \u2013 5 May 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS BY PAULINA KUBIAK GREER,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ABDULLA SHAHID<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>United Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, today convened an informal interactive dialogue with a candidate for the Presidency of the 77<sup>th<\/sup> session of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si of Hungary presented his vision for the Presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Member States and civil society then had an opportunity to ask Mr. K\u0151r\u00f6si questions.<\/p>\n<p>The dialogue is being held in accordance with resolution 71\/323, entitled \u201cRevitalization of the work of the General Assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The election for the Presidency of the 77<sup>th<\/sup> session will take place in the General Assembly Hall on 7 June at 10AM ET.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STI FORUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today and tomorrow is the Science, Technology and Innovation Forum at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum brings together scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, high-level policy makers, and representatives from civil society and international organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Missions of Tanzania and Ukraine serve as the co-chairs.<\/p>\n<p>President Shahid addressed the Forum via recorded message on this year\u2019s theme: \u201cScience, technology and innovation for building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ROAD SAFETY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And just a quick note on the High-level meeting on Improving Global Road Safety, which will be held next month.<\/p>\n<p>Today is the first informal consultation on the draft political declaration that will be the outcome of that event.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s discussion was held virtually.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spokesperson was asked about plans for this September\u2019s Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA. The Spokesperson said that the aim is to have an in-person Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA but this will not be confirmed until this summer, when the plans would be finalized.<\/p>\n<p>The Spokesperson was asked for any additional outcomes from the High-level tourism event held yesterday. The Spokesperson said that the focus was on the discussions in the room. She can now add that the Member States see tremendous benefit in having the tourism event every year.
