\nSPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ABDULLA SHAHID<\/strong>
\nUnited Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n

AZERBAIJAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, will make an official visit to Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

He will be in Baku from 12 to 13 June, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

President Shahid is scheduled to meet with President Ilham Aliyev, and will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov.<\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly is also expected to meet with the Chair of the Parliament, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova.<\/p>\n

During his visit, her will engage with young people and academics at the ADA University, formerly known as the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy.<\/p>\n

President Shahid will also meet with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Country Team, led by the Resident Coordinator, Ms. Vladanka Andreeva.<\/p>\n

The costs of the trip are paid for by the Government and the OPGA Trust Fund.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

GENERAL ASSEMBLY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today in the General Assembly Hall, Member States voted for ECOSOC members for the 2023-2025 term. These are three-year terms.<\/p>\n

The votes are still being counted in this hour, but I will email out the results.<\/p>\n

[Official results for the elections, except for the results of the third targeted round in the Eastern European States\u2019 group between Russia and North Macedonia:<\/p>\n

African States<\/strong>:\u00a0Botswana,\u00a0Cabo Verde,\u00a0Cameroon and\u00a0Equatorial Guinea<\/p>\n

Asia-Pacific States<\/strong>:\u00a0China,\u00a0Lao People’s Democratic Republic,\u00a0Qatar and\u00a0Republic of Korea<\/p>\n

*Eastern European States<\/strong>:\u00a0Slovakia and\u00a0Slovenia\u00a0+ 1 ongoing vote<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Latin American and Caribbean States<\/strong>:\u00a0Brazil,\u00a0Colombia and\u00a0Costa Rica<\/p>\n

Western European and other States<\/strong>:\u00a0Denmark,\u00a0Greece,\u00a0New Zealand and\u00a0Sweden<\/p>\n

Also today, the General Assembly adopted by consensus the draft resolution on multilingualism, A\/76\/L.57.<\/p>\n

The General Assembly then resumed the debate from 8 June on in the context of resolution 76\/262, the so-called Veto Initiative.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Kennedy Godfrey Gastorn, the Permanent Representative of Tanzania, is overseeing today\u2019s General Assembly \u2013 both the morning and afternoon sessions.<\/p>\n
