LISBON\/FISHERIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, is wrapping up his official visit to Portugal today.<\/p>\n

He spoke this morning at the FAO launch of the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture Report.<\/p>\n

President Shahid said that at a time when food insecurity is a growing concern, ensuring the sustainable use of the oceans resources is vital.<\/p>\n

One solution that we must seriously consider is transitioning to more sustainable and environmentally friendly policies and practices.<\/p>\n

President Shahid also spoke in a pre-recorded message to an event organized by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Office for South-South Cooperation. The theme is leveraging South-South and triangular cooperation to advance the Blue Economy Agency in SIDS.<\/p>\n

He noted that Small Island Developing States have a special relationship with the ocean, and need genuine and durable partnerships for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

And these partnerships must be SMART. That is, they must be:<\/p>\n
