Mr. Abdulla Shahid called on H.E. Dr. Alejandro Giammattei Falla, President of the Republic of Guatemala on 14 July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The President of Guatemala underscored that it is the first time that a President of the General Assembly has even visited the country, a historic opportunity that brings the U.N. closer to the field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President\u00a0Shahid\u00a0thanked the President of Guatemala for the hospitality and congratulated the government\u2019s commitment to multilateralism, including their invaluable contribution to peacekeeping operations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President\u00a0Falla\u00a0underlined the vulnerability of Guatemala and the Central American region to climate change and the challenges it represents to their territory.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both sides also discussed other relevant topics such as COVID-19 recovery, the migration crisis, climate change, environmental degradation, gender, the Ukraine crisis and its global implications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both sides\u00a0also\u00a0agreed that the Common Agenda -OCA- provides a roadmap for a U.N. that is more responsible and relevant to facing today\u00b4s challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The meeting took place at the Presidential House, Guatemala City.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>15 July 2022<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E.
