Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with Mr. Arturs Toms Ple\u0161s, Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">President Shahid presented the progress made on the priorities of his Presidency of Hope, highlighting his efforts to bring synergies and cohesion among the global environmental processes, including in the areas of<span class=\"x_Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>climate, biodiversity, desertification, energy, food systems and oceans. He commended Latvia\u2019s commitment to preserve natural environment and to address the adverse effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Minister Toms Ple\u0161s briefed PGA on Latvia\u2019s achievements to cut greenhouse emission and to attain climate neutrality by 2050, stressing the opportunities provided by sustainable forest management and investments in green energy. He also underlined how digital transformation, environmental protection and regional development reinforce each other while advancing the implementation of SDGs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">They both discussed the importance of involving youth into the discussions on tackling environmental issues as well as the increased recognition of climate change as a security challenge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The meeting took place in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia in Riga.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">22 July 2022<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E.
