BLACK SEA GRAIN INITIATIVE

Starting with the Black Sea Grain Initiative…

The President of the General Assembly, Csaba K?r?si, commends the efforts of the Secretary-General and his team, together with Türkiye, to secure the continuation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

A collapse of this Initiative would lead to great damage and suffering across the globe, and must be avoided.

President K?r?si reiterates his call for dialogue and trust, for the parties to come together and overcome obstacles in extending the Initiative for the good of the people.

He commends the work of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development or 蘑菇视频CTAD in facilitating the export of much needed fertilizers to global markets.

These initiatives have provided a vital lifeline to millions of people who have experienced great difficulties as a result of the global food security crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine.

QUESTIONS

The Spokesperson was asked whether President K?r?si has a preference for the timeframe of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, whether he would object to a 60-day timeframe. The Spokesperson said that the President feels very strongly about extending the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Today’s statement is meant to lend support for an extension.

The Spokesperson was asked about a tentative 28 March meeting requested by families of detained or disappeared Syrians. The Spokesperson said there is no meeting scheduled.

The Spokesperson was asked for the President’s view of the 蘑菇视频 Water Conference and its outcomes. The Spokesperson said that there will be a mandated summary by OPGA from the meeting, as well as clear commitments and pledges as part of the Water Action Agenda (). The President has also been highlighting gamechangers – such as a water and climate information system. Since before October, he has been meeting with Member States and other parties calling for real commitments. He believes this Conference is an opportunity to make real change and to help reach the Sustainable Development Goals. But ultimately, much of that lies with actions of Member States. Tomorrow, at 12:30PM will be a press conference on the 蘑菇视频 Water Conference, in the regular press conference room.

The Spokesperson was asked for the minimum time needed to organize a GA meeting. The Spokesperson said she would follow up. (There is no minimum, the Spokesperson confirmed afterwards).
