The President of the General Assembly, Csaba K?r?si, is in Kuwait.
He was received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Yesterday, the President visited an Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA facility, as I mentioned.
I wanted to highlight that the President posted a personal video message on his social media, which features him surrounded by Palestinian students.
The President says that the students envision a cleaner, more just world, where they can become doctors and engineers. And the President is calling on the international community to give them those opportunities to develop their capabilities.

The President participated via pre-recorded message in the 8th annual multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.
He told the audience in the Trusteeship Council, which I understand was filled with scientists and other stakeholders that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ needs them to inform its decisions.
He noted that scientists predict a 25 per cent change of another disease as deadly and widespread as COVID emerging within 10 years.
He is calling for cooperation to strengthen progress towards the 2030 Agenda.

And on this topic, a reminder that on 8 and 9 May, there will be multi-stakeholder hearings on the topics of universal health coverage, the fight against tuberculosis, and pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM
Today is World Press Freedom Day.
You now have a copy of the joint statement by President K?r?si; President of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO General Conference Santiago Irazabal Mour?o; President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Lachezara Stoeva; and the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council V¨¢clav B¨¢lek.
The signatories urge Member States, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system, regional organisations, civil society, and all stakeholders to safeguard the right to freedom of opinion and expression as a basis for tackling the interlocking crises that the world faces.
Given that today is the official Day, the President is supporting the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO campaign online ¡°Everything is alright¡±, which highlights that if everything is alright in the news, something must be wrong with journalist.
The President takes this opportunity to again stress that freedom of speech and safety for journalists to do their work is vital.

Turning to Security Council reform¡
Tomorrow, there will be an informal meeting of the intergovernmental negotiations on the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the security Council and other matters related to the Council.
Those will start at 10AM in Conference Room 2.
Following the recent suggestion by the cofacilitators ¨C you will be able to watch the portion of the IGN on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ WebTV. The portion with Member States giving their official remarks will be webcast.
The webcast will then close when the closed-door negotiations begin.

The co-facilitators of this process are Ambassador Tareq Albanai, the Permanent Representative of Kuwait and Ambassador Alexander Marschik?? the Permanent Representative of Austria.
GENDER CAMPAIGN
And we wanted to highlight the Missions of the Dominican Republic, of Netherlands, and of Rwanda for joining the President¡¯s call.
Staff at these Permanent Missions have pledged to complete the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ training on promoting gender equality and preventing sexual harassment.
