GA REVITALIZATION
President Csaba K?r?si this morning met with Ambassador Egriselda López, Permanent Representative of El Salvador.
She and Ambassador Mitch Fifield, the former Permanent Representative of Australia, led the GA revitalization process.
There is a General Assembly resolution that will be taken up for action in September, as we discussed.
In today’s bilateral, the President and Ambassador López discussed the content of the resolution and the next steps.
The President has urged Member States to take action on the draft, and build on its recommendations:
Just prior to the meeting, President K?r?si spoke by phone with Ambassador Fifield on the same topics.
And a reminder that Ambassador López and Ambassador Fifield were guests on the OPGA Fellows podcast about this GA revitalization:
NUCLEAR CRANES
Yesterday was the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
This Wednesday is the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
You will recall that the President is marking that anniversaries by speaking out against nuclear weapons.
He said on Friday that “nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. The dangers from nuclear weapons arise from their very existence. We should use our technologies and resources to create better lives; not costlier, deadlier threats.”
The President joined the Cranes for our Future campaign, for a world without nuclear weapons, and a future where the horrors of the past are never repeated.
