Excellencies, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Distinguished Delegates,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I am <\/span><\/span>sincerel<\/span><\/span>y grateful<\/span><\/span> for you<\/span><\/span>r<\/span><\/span> engagement<\/span><\/span> in <\/span><\/span>today\u2019s<\/span><\/span>event.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You<\/span><\/span>r<\/span><\/span> presence and participation <\/span><\/span>testify to your <\/span><\/span>commitment to this issue. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All <\/span><\/span>of you raised important points. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

While <\/span><\/span>I <\/span><\/span>cannot<\/span><\/span> capture them all in these short remarks, <\/span><\/span>and there still are quite a few interventions to be delivered, <\/span><\/span>I was<\/span><\/span> already <\/span><\/span>p<\/span><\/span>leased <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>hear<\/span><\/span> some <\/span><\/span>remarkable <\/span><\/span>proposals today.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We are from 193 different <\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>tates<\/span><\/span>. We represent 8 billion people.<\/span><\/span> There will, inevitably, <\/span><\/span>a broad variety of opinions and circumstances<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We should not let our differences lead to <\/span><\/span>threat<\/span><\/span>s <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span> force<\/span><\/span>, let alone war.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We must exercise mutual respect<\/span><\/span>, goodwill<\/span><\/span> and understanding and focus our energies <\/span><\/span>on peaceful solutions. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

There are <\/span><\/span>many <\/span><\/span>important areas where we <\/span><\/span>do<\/span><\/span> see eye to eye. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

We all agree that this Declaration<\/span><\/span> is <\/span><\/span>not only a pioneering<\/span><\/span> moral <\/span><\/span>instrument<\/span><\/span> but<\/span><\/span> a <\/span><\/span>universal guide in the protection of persons belonging to national, ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Today\u2019s discussions substantiate the <\/span><\/span>fact <\/span><\/span>that respecting the rights of minorities leads to <\/span><\/span>peaceful and inclusive societies<\/span><\/span>, supporting social and political stability<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>In time of multidimensional crises like the one we are facing now, <\/span><\/span>stability and trust<\/span><\/span> are particularly important values.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

T<\/span><\/span>hese are<\/span><\/span> prerequisites of sustaina<\/span><\/span>bility transformation<\/span><\/span>, key to success in the rapidly changing world<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Better late than never: <\/span><\/span>30 years after adopting th<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>Declaration<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> now is the moment to implement <\/span><\/span>practical solutions<\/span><\/span> to <\/span><\/span>prevent <\/span><\/span>instability and <\/span><\/span>conflic<\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

If we successfully take action on this Declaration \u2013 we <\/span><\/span>all\u00a0<\/span><\/span>win.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If we fail <\/span><\/span>at <\/span><\/span>implementing<\/span><\/span> the tenets of <\/span><\/span>the Declaration \u2013 we <\/span><\/span>all<\/span><\/span> lose.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Please bring today\u2019s momentum with you as you return home. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Please advocate in your institutions of power<\/span><\/span> for the very clear benefits that respecting the rights of all represents. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I<\/span><\/span> wi<\/span><\/span>ll prepare a summary of <\/span><\/span>today\u2019s<\/span><\/span> discussion. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I will ensure it includes all the experiences shared, lessons <\/span><\/span>learnt,<\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span>pledges <\/span><\/span>taken<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But, ultimately, <\/span><\/span>where we are heading<\/span><\/span> depends <\/span><\/span>on finding the<\/span><\/span> right ways of implement<\/span><\/span>ing <\/span><\/span>what we have subscribed to in our countries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We cannot let another 30 years of inaction pass us by. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I count on you all<\/span><\/span> to make significant pro<\/span><\/span>gr<\/span><\/span>ess in this area<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

S<\/span><\/span>eize <\/span><\/span>today\u2019s<\/span><\/span> momentum<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>and act on it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
