Thank you very much Mr. Chairman,<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

I congratulate His Excellency Ambassador\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Alfonso\u202fBlanco Conde of the Dominican Republic, and members of the\u00a0Bureau as they lead the work\u00a0of this Committee.<\/p>\n

\n

But now, I would like to take you\u00a0out of your comfort zone.<\/i><\/p>\n

We are at a critical moment. A watershed moment.<\/p>\n

I have spoken at length about the interlocking challenges that we face.<\/p>\n

Armed conflict, illegal annexations, the undeniable devastation of the environment, climate change, rising xenophobia, increasing inequalities\u2026 and the list goes on.<\/p>\n

Worldwide, human rights have suffered as a result of these crises.<\/p>\n

These crises are deeply interconnected and need to be addressed\u00a0as a whole<\/i>.<\/p>\n

They require\u00a0immediate\u00a0<\/i>answers,\u00a0<\/i>and sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n

Business as usual is\u00a0not\u00a0<\/i>an option.<\/p>\n

\n

Let me state plainly:<\/p>\n

I expect the resolutions of this Committee to be\u00a0more\u00a0<\/i>than technical.<\/p>\n

Never forget that human rights are intrinsically linked to our own\u00a0humanity<\/i>.<\/p>\n

They are undeniable. Inalienable. They should be respected.<\/p>\n

This Committee plays a critical role in guiding actions on the ground.<\/p>\n

Your responsibility therefore is huge.<\/p>\n

For these reasons, I ask three things of you.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

First, make your resolutions understandable.<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

The Third Committee is a place of \u201cliving texts\u201d.<\/p>\n

We are here to serve the 8 billion constituents who are counting on us.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To be impact-oriented, our decisions have to be\u00a0understood\u00a0<\/i>by them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Implementation depends on this.<\/p>\n

Ask yourself:<\/p>\n

Can I explain\u00a0<\/i>the relevance of my resolutions, of my work and how it is contributing to making the world a better place \u2013 in one minute?<\/p>\n

True relevance shall be boiled down to sixty seconds in a time of crisis.<\/p>\n

\n

Number 2: Listen and engage with one another.<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

For many of you, this is will be your\u00a0first\u00a0<\/i>session sitting in the Committee negotiations in-person.<\/p>\n

Take advantage of this newfound opportunity.<\/p>\n

The essence of diplomacy is human relations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two and half years of virtual interactions have contributed to the\u00a0erosion of trust<\/i>\u00a0between delegations.<\/p>\n

This year, you\u00a0cannot<\/i>\u00a0turn off your cameras.<\/p>\n

Use this session of the Third Committee to engage in honest dialogue.<\/p>\n

Be present in the room.\u00a0Listen<\/i>\u00a0to each other.<\/s><\/p>\n

Hear the voices of the Youth Delegates.<\/p>\n

Rely on the support of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system.<\/p>\n

Use the advice and experience of the civil society organisations.<\/p>\n

I am pleased that the Chair has held a briefing with civil society already.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

I hope this practice will continue during the whole session.<\/p>\n

\n

Number 3: View all of your work through the lens of crisis management and transformation.<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

The answers of the 20th<\/sup>\u00a0century may not be the best for today\u2019s questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We need\u00a0profound changes in many of our social, economic and political processes.<\/p>\n

But transformation does not come cheap.<\/p>\n

Scientists would tell you that, in order to transform,<\/p>\n
