ICJ<\/strong><\/p>\n

The General Assembly today holds a debate on the work of the International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, the President of the General Assembly Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si said the ICJ is a cornerstone and a beacon of the United Nations system. \u201cIt manifests the principles and goals we strive for in these halls: the rule of law, justice, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n

The International Court of Justice represents the best of multilateralism, he said.<\/p>\n

For our global community, it is more crucial than ever before to send a clear message that international law must be respected.<\/p>\n

Following his opening, the ICJ President Judge Joan Donoghue introduced the annual report of the Court to the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

JCC FÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵDING<\/strong><\/p>\n

This afternoon, the General Assembly will consider the recommendation of the Fifth Committee on revised estimates on United Nations activities to mitigate global food insecurity and its humanitarian impact.<\/p>\n

This is funding that will be used by the Joint Coordination Centre for the Black Sea Grain Initiative.<\/p>\n

BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to bilaterals\u2026<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si just met with the Minister of Migration and Asylum of Greece, Mr. Panagiotis Mitarachi.<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si also met with Vivian Okeke, the Representative of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).<\/p>\n

Later today, he will speak with Ambassador Munir Akram, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan<\/p>\n

As well as Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman,\u00a0the Permanent Representative of Ghana, in his capacity as upcoming President of the Security Council for the month of November.<\/p>\n

And then with Ambassador Cornel Feruta, the Permanent Representative of Romania.<\/p>\n

THIRD COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the Third Committee today,<\/p>\n

Chair of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel, Ms. Navi PILLAY
\nSpecial Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Ms. Francesca P. ALBANESE

FRIDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tomorrow, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will host the second of his Morning Dialogues. This week\u2019s topic is transformation and crisis management.<\/p>\n

That will be followed by an informal meeting of the General Committee to seek greater coherence in the work of the General Assembly. The General Committee of the General Assembly includes the five Chairs of Committee, the GA Vice-Presidents and the Co-Facilitators for the various processes.\u00a0This informal meeting will be open to all Member States to attend.<\/p>\n

QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Journalists noted that Special Rapporteurs with country-specific mandates brief the Third Committee and the press back-to-back during a short span of time. Journalists requested that the briefings be spread over a week or so. The Spokesperson discussed the issue with OHCHR NY\u2019s Communications Officer, Laura Gelbert, for potential follow-up.<\/p>\n
