FAMILY JUSTICE CENTER <\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly, Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si visited the Manhattan Family Justice Center.<\/p>\n

This was an opportunity to meet with community-based organizations assisting survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

The President was also joined by New York City Commissioners Cecile Noel and Edward Mermelstein.<\/p>\n

The President said it was a very emotional discussion.<\/p>\n

One of the ideas that was repeated by the different CBO representatives was that each survivor is unique and the solutions need to be unique and without judgement. Because statistics show that on average, it takes seven attempts to leave a domestic violence relationship.<\/p>\n

The discussions touched on the importance of building trust and educating people about domestic and gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Also the importance of emotional learning from an early age and helping youth think differently about their behaviors or perhaps those that they are seeing at home.<\/p>\n

The President identified the importance of survivors and their children regaining dignity, as a priority that he saw.<\/p>\n

The President expressed his intention to bring good examples, such as the community-based approach he saw at the Family Justice Center, to the attention of the United Nations Member States.<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u2019s visit comes ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which on 25 November starts the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, a campaign headed by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Women \u2013 as you just heard.<\/p>\n

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Later today, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will speak to the Group of Friends on Digital Technologies.<\/p>\n

One of the points he is expected to make in his remarks is that Our Common Agenda lays the groundwork for a comprehensive Global Digital Compat.<\/p>\n

This is an opportunity to holistically address the challenges of the digital realm.<\/p>\n

To ensure that human rights are respected online.<\/p>\n

To hold accountable those who purposefully spread misinformed, misleading, or dangerous content.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

SECOND COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Second Committee is today taking action on a long list of draft resolutions.<\/p>\n

I wanted to highlight a resolution on the \u201cPromotion of inclusive and effective international tax cooperation at the United Nations.\u201d<\/p>\n

This resolution was adopted by consensus, after some discussion on a failed amendment.<\/p>\n

The resolution decides to begin intergovernmental discussions in New York at United Nations Headquarters on ways to strengthen the inclusiveness and effectiveness of international tax cooperation .<\/p>\n

This would be done through the evaluation of additional options. Those include the possibility of developing an international tax cooperation framework or instrument that is developed and agreed upon through a United Nations intergovernmental process, taking into full consideration existing international and multilateral arrangements.<\/p>\n

The Second Committee is chaired by the President of ECOSOC \u2013 Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria.<\/p>\n

The Committee is expected to wrap up its work this afternoon.<\/p>\n

BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to bilaterals\u2026<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si today meets with Ambassador Mohamed Siad Doualeh, Permanent Representative of Djibouti. The subject of the meeting is next year\u2019s Water Summit.<\/p>\n

The President will also meet today with Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima, who is the new High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.<\/p>\n

NEXT WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 29 November, in ECOSOC, will be the Special meeting in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, 30 November, at 10AM ET is the plenary meeting on the question of Palestine. Action is expected on draft resolutions.<\/p>\n

Thursday, 1 December, is the debate on sport for development and peace.<\/p>\n
