In 1947, the General Assembly accepted responsibility<\/strong> for finding a just solution to the question of Palestine.<\/em><\/p>\n

With the adoption of Resolution 181, it decided on the establishment of two States, living side by side in peace and security.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, the question of a lasting and comprehensive solution still <\/strong>lingers on<\/strong> the Assembly\u2019s agenda \u2013 and on the minds of countless Palestinians, who are waiting to see their dreams of a sovereign, independent state fulfilled.)<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With each passing day, their fate only grows more uncertain.<\/p>\n

In 1950, when Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA began its operations, it was responding to the needs of 750 thousand people.<\/p>\n

Today, there are nearly 6 million Palestine refugees registered under its mandate.<\/p>\n

I strongly commend Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA for providing vitally important assistance for the past 72 years to Palestinians in desperate need.<\/p>\n

Yet, the success of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA is also a reminder that we, the international community, have come up short on finding a more sustainable solution.<\/p>\n

That we have unfinished business to help resolve the conflict \u2013 and meet the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians and Israelis alike.<\/p>\n

(Russian translation: During this year\u2019s High-Level Week, I paid close attention to the positive messages from leaders of the parties involved.<\/em><\/p>\n

I was encouraged by their statements indicating that a negotiated two-state solution remains the best method<\/strong> to ensure security for both Israelis and Palestinians \u2013 and prosperity for the whole of the region.) <\/em><\/p>\n

The only reasonable way forward is through direct dialogue, talks in good faith, respect for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ resolutions, and building on previous agreements.<\/p>\n

For, as said by Mahatma Gandhi, \u201cAn eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Let us give young people a reason for hope.<\/p>\n

We simply must help to shift the dynamics from disagreement to engagement.<\/p>\n

Yet, Excellencies, this Agency, the mandate of which you renew year in and year out, continues to face a huge funding gap.<\/p>\n

The recent agreement on a permanent maritime boundary between Israel and Lebanon is a symbolic achievement that proves that good faith negotiations are a way to success.<\/p>\n

Excellencies, dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

\u201cIt always seems impossible until it is done\u201d, as the saying goes.<\/p>\n

Let us move beyond the default of distrust.<\/p>\n

Let us ask the hard questions.<\/p>\n

Let us focus on the common good.<\/p>\n

Let us finally resolve this conflict.<\/p>\n
