Thursday, 12 January 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

    G77 AND CHINA CHAIRMANSHIP<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/strong>President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si will this afternoon address the handover of the Chairmanship of the G77 and China, from Pakistan to Cuba.<\/p>\n

    That\u2019s at 3PM in the Trusteeship.<\/p>\n

    Ahead of that event, the President met with the Foreign Minister of Cuba, Mr. Bruno Rodrigez Parilla this morning, in the context of the handover.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    COLOMBIA<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Also today, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will meet with Colombia\u2019s Vice-President Francia M\u00e1rquez and Foreign Minister \u00c1lvaro Leyva.<\/p>\n

    Vice-President M\u00e1rquez had addressed the Security Council yesterday. Their discussion today will touch on her address and the transformative concept of \u201ctotal peace\u201d, as well as topics of gender, climate change and water management, among other issues.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    ECUADOR<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This afternoon, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will meet with the Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Holguin.<\/p>\n

    The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss Ecuador\u2019s membership of the Security Council, its priorities for the remainder of the 77th<\/sup> session as well as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    JAPAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Turning to the Presidency of the Security Council\u2026<\/p>\n

    President K\u0151r\u00f6si met with Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi of Japan.<\/p>\n

    They discussed Security Council reform and the revitalization of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    YOUTH FELLOWS <\/strong><\/p>\n

    On the issue of the President\u2019s Fellowship programs.<\/p>\n

    The six young diplomats from Armenia, Botswana, Cuba, the Maldives, Rwanda and Samoa, will arrive in New York next week.<\/p>\n

    The Fellowship is one of the topics that the President will discuss today, in a meeting with\u00a0 Ignazio Cassis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.<\/p>\n


    \nBILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

    In terms of what else is on the President\u2019s agenda\u2026<\/p>\n

    On water and climate issues, President K\u0151r\u00f6si today meets with the Special Envoy of the President of Tajikistan on water and climate issues; Sulton Rahimzoda<\/p>\n

    He will also meet with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); Mirjana Spoljaric.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    MODEL Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This evening, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will speak to some 600 high school students at the Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition.<\/p>\n

    I will share his remarks once given.<\/p>\n
