BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me start today with bilaterals\u2026<\/p>\n

President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si met with Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski, the Permanent Representative of Poland.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador officially shared a letter on reparations concerning World War II.<\/p>\n

They also discussed tuberculosis, which is one of the issues on the agenda of the General Assembly\u2019s 77th<\/sup> session.<\/p>\n

This afternoon, the President will meet with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms. Emine Dzhaparova.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IRENA<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tomorrow, the President will deliver remarks to the International Renewable Energy Agency Assembly.<\/p>\n

The President is expected to say that fossil fuels account for 75 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and 90 per cent of all carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p>\n

Climate protection depends on transitioning to carbon-free energy use.<\/p>\n

If on track, renewable energies could constitute two-thirds of global power generation by 2030.<\/p>\n

The President will then lay out three requirements to make this a reality \u2013 investing in scientific tools of measurement, technology transfer and bolstering partnerships with stakeholders.<\/p>\n

WEEK AHEAD<\/strong><\/p>\n

Looking ahead\u2026<\/p>\n

Tuesday, 17 January, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will present his priorities for the remainder of the 77th<\/sup> session. This will take place in an informal meeting of the General Assembly, in the Trusteeship at 10AM ET.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Wednesday 18 January, Member States will elect the Executive Director of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Environment Programme (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵEP). The Secretary-General has nominated Inger Andersen for re-election. That\u2019s in the General Assembly Hall at 10AM ET.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then on Thursday morning, 19 January, President K\u0151r\u00f6si and ECOSOC President Lachezara Stoeva will jointly brief on their priorities and plans for the next nine months.<\/p>\n

ELECTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

And as you plan for the months ahead, let me inform you about the elections that will take place in June in the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, 1 June, Member States will elect the President of the 78th<\/sup> session of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 6 June, will be the election of the non-permanent members of the Security Council.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, 8 June, will be the election of members of the Economic and Social Council.<\/p>\n
