ICRMT<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This morning in the General Assembly Hall, Member States took part in a debate on the on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Before inviting Judge Graciela Gatti Santana to the rostrum, President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si congratulated the Judge on her appointment as President of the Mechanism, and pledged his full support to the important work of the Tribunal.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He said that \u201cin these turbulent times, it is crucial to support international courts and tribunals like the IRMCT that work to further the rule of law, and hold accountable the perpetrators of the most serious and heinous crimes.<\/p>\n

Institutions like the IRMCT send a clear message that the international community will not sit back passively and allow for impunity when the gravest of crimes have been committed.<\/p>\n

This Tribunal also serves as a testament of some of our darkest chapters of modern history, preserving accurate historical records and fighting genocide deniers.\u201d<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si then encouraged all Member States to continue to cooperate with and support the Tribunal in line with their obligations under international law.<\/p>\n

MAIN COMMITTEES<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier today, President K\u0151r\u00f6si met with the chairs of the Main GA committees to discuss progress and any challenges coming up.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The chair of the First Committee is Ambassador Mohan Pieris, the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria chairs the Second Committee.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ambassador Jos\u00e9 Alfonso\u202fBlanco Conde, the Permanent Representative of Dominican Republic, chairs the Third.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Fourth Committee is chaired by Ambassador Mohamed Al Hassan, the Permanent Representative of Oman.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Fifth by Ambassador Philippe Kridelka, the Permanent Representative of Belgium.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Sixth by Ambassador Pedro Comiss\u00e1rio Afonso, the Permanent Representative of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to bilaterals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si today meets with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar, Ms. Noeleen Heyzer. The Special Envoy will brief the Third Committee on Tuesday of next week.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si has a number of meetings related to water, which is one of the main topics for the 77th<\/sup> session and his own priorities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The President will meet with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP Associate Administrator Usha Rao-Monari.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si will also meet today with the Permanent Representatives of Netherlands and Tajikistan, Ambassador Yoka Brandt and Ambassador Jonibek Hikmat.<\/p>\n

They are the co-hosts of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ 2023 Water Conference.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Today\u2019s discussion will be about the preparatory meeting for the Conference, which will to be held on 25 October. And ahead of that preparatory meeting, there will be stakeholder consultations on 24 October organized by OPGA. You will have a media advisory on that tomorrow.<\/p>\n

GA THURSDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to tomorrow, 20 October. The General Assembly will hold a debate on Economic and Social Council\u2019s annual report.<\/p>\n

Also tomorrow, President K\u0151r\u00f6si will participate in an interactive dialogue between Member States and Resident Coordinators.<\/p>\n
