{"id":250284,"date":"2022-09-16T15:39:15","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T19:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/77\/?p=250284"},"modified":"2023-02-09T15:40:41","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T20:40:41","slug":"noon-briefing-highlights-16-september-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/77\/2022\/09\/16\/noon-briefing-highlights-16-september-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Noon Briefing Highlights &#8211; 16 September 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Spokesperson for General Assembly President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si<br \/>\nUnited Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Friday, 16 September 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL ASSEMBLY <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting with the General Assembly\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Member States adopted the programme of work for the 77<sup>th<\/sup> session.<\/p>\n<p>This lists the topics that will be discussed throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Member States then began to take action on a draft decision issued as document A\/77\/L.1, and amendment A\/77\/L.2<\/p>\n<p>[After the briefing, Member States held recorded votes on the documents.<\/p>\n<p>The result of the vote on A\/77\/L.1 was 101 in favour, 7 against and 19 absentions.<\/p>\n<p>The result of the vote on A\/77\/L.2 was 23 in favour, 67 against and 27 abstentions.]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PEACE BELL <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This morning, the President of the General Assembly Csaba\u00a0K\u0151r\u00f6si, rang the Peace Bell.<\/p>\n<p>This is an annual tradition ahead of International Peace Day, marked annually on 21 September.<\/p>\n<p>Before ringing the Bell, President K\u0151r\u00f6si spoke on the theme of &#8220;End racism. Build peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that we stand here today because of those who came before us.<\/p>\n<p>These hard-won gains are worthy of remembrance, he said.<\/p>\n<p>May the ringing of this bell stand for the freedom and equality of everyone, everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>His remarks are in your in-boxes and online.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDUCATION <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Later this morning, President K\u0151r\u00f6si participated in the Transforming Education Summit. Today is Youth-led mobilization day. There are three days of event culminating in the Summit on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>President K\u0151r\u00f6si took part with Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed in a fireside chat.<\/p>\n<p>Youth leader Kenisha Arora moderated.<\/p>\n<p>President K\u0151r\u00f6si highlighted the importance of youth engagement and education.<\/p>\n<p>When talking about climate change, he gave the examples Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵFCCC and the Paris Agreement, saying they all mention the importance of teaching about climate change.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s the young people who need to teach Governments how to galvanize momentum.<\/p>\n<p>The President told youth participants, you have a seat in the table. You don\u2019t have to ask.\u00a0 Be brave, be bold, be provocative. And pull up a chair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Spokesperson was asked about changes to the List of Speakers during Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA, as result of Monday\u2019s funeral for Her Majesty.
