{"id":250811,"date":"2023-03-01T12:24:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T17:24:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/77\/?p=250811"},"modified":"2023-03-01T16:01:33","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T21:01:33","slug":"noon-briefing-highlights-1-march-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/77\/2023\/03\/01\/noon-briefing-highlights-1-march-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Noon Briefing Highlights &#8211; 1 March 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Spokesperson for General Assembly President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si<br \/>\nUnited Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Wednesday, 1 March 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BAKU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si is enroute to Baku, Azerbaijan, where his official program begins tomorrow, with a keynote address to a Summit-Level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Post-COVID-19 Recovery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BEYOND GDP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Back here in New York, the President spoke via video message to the High-level Forum on Official Statistics.<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged statisticians who were here this week in their work on \u201cBeyond GDP\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Which is this concept that we need to develop indicators that are defined and clear, but that take into account environmental and social aspects.<\/p>\n<p>The President said \u201cplease, create a tool for us that can validate real progress and shape decision-making\u201d. Methodology that can measure for measuring sustainability transformation that integrates human and social well-being, natural capital and economic development.<\/p>\n<p>And in this message, the President announced that the next science briefing for the General Assembly will be on 10 April. The co-facilitators are Mr. Olivier Maes, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, and Ms. Mathu Joyini, Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Work is simultaneously taking place on the other 15 processes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spokesperson was asked why the President hasn\u2019t been more outspoken about developments in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The Spokesperson said that the President is aware of all developments, and given his knowledge of Arabic and time spent in the Middle East, he follows events closely. His door is always open to all Member States should any wish to hold a meeting. The President supports and works in line with General Assembly resolutions on this issue.
