My experience in the LBR team for the last 4 weeks have been insightful and enlightening. I have come to appreciate the technical and substantive efforts geared towards facilitating the important aspect of the General assembly, the meetings, consultations, and discussions. The team have exposed me to how they prepare for GA debates particularly on highly contested issues, and all the legal\/procedural steps considered or followed going into every meeting. LBR works in conjunction with the DGACM and the two entities play a pivotal role in ensuring the GA carries out its mandate without any procedural challenges. I have gained considerable appreciation of the practical application of the rules of procedure in the GA. I have been closely following and documenting the Security Council Reform consultations, the GA revitalization debates and other key negotiations and all these have exponentially widened my understanding of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system.<\/p>\n

The whole team as well as my mentor in the office have been supportive and constantly offering nuggets of wisdom on a number of issues. Moreover, the PGA has been on official visit to countries such as Japan and India, and it has been a great learning experience for me to be part of the debriefings after the trips. The PGA has extended the discussions to the fellows as well to incorporate our views\/inputs on how to improve existing practices which clearly reflects his commitment to youth engagement at all levels. Furthermore, on the issue of inclusion, I am currently attending a number of the ongoing CSW meetings, addressing the issue of gender equality with respect to the development agenda. It can be noted that my ongoing task within the OPGA has given me a broader understanding of the issues being discussed at these meetings complementing my experience from the 77th session of ECOSOC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/div>\r\nFrom the outset I would like to note that the magnitude of this programme to myself, my country Botswana, and the global community has a significant bearing on my overall experience thus far. As a young diplomat with keen interest in multilateral diplomacy, being nominated to learn and serve under one of the principal organs of the United Nations has been a dream come true. As a patriot, it avails an opportunity of being an extension of my country\u2019s policy of an inclusive and overarching contribution to multilateralism and global solidarity particularly with respect to realizing the tenets of the 2030 Agenda. Furthermore, as a proponent of meaningful youth engagement in policy formulation, it brings me great delight to be part of one of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s transformative reform initiatives of empowering the youth to be active and informed actors of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ mandate.\r\n\r\nOn that background, I can confidently confirm that the programme has been to an exceptional start. The President of the General Assembly has personally welcomed us and outlined his vision on Youth Engagement as well as his priorities for this session of the General Assembly. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Institute for Training and Research (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵITAR) meticulously crafted a two weeks training programme that brought myself and the rest of the fellows up to speed with work of the OPGA as well as the rest of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system. I further laud the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA) for their mentorship initiative that has expeditiously allowed me to adapt and settle in well.\r\n\r\nI have been assigned to the Legal, Budget and Reform team in the OPGA for the first phase of rotation across all other units. As it stands, with all the tasks\/assignments from my unit there is a clear indication that I will return to capital a well-rounded diplomat.
