WATER MARATHON<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si is this hour speaking at a New York City Water Week event.<\/p>\n

This is the SDG 6 Research and Innovation Marathon Relay organized by the CÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵY or the City University of New York.<\/p>\n

The President said that as a global community of governments, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system, civil society, the private sector, scientists, academics and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds \u2013 we all are in a race against time.<\/p>\n

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Water Conference is an opportunity to deliberate on SDG 6 \u2013 on clean water and sanitation. The goal is to expand thinking about water and a water secure future. And to identify innovations that will have impact.<\/p>\n

The President again reiterated his call for a \u201cNew York Moment\u201d this week, on scale with the \u201cParis Moment\u201d following climate change talks in 2015.<\/p>\n

CIVIL SERVICE <\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier today, President K\u0151r\u00f6si addressed the opening of 95th session of the International Civil Service Commission.<\/p>\n

He told the ICSC that he \u201ccannot stress enough the important role of the ICSC in strengthening and maintaining high standards in the international civil service, and in continuing our rapid adjustment to new workplace realities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President then made three suggestions for the Commission\u2019s work, including to continue its close coordination with the Fifth Commission.<\/p>\n

This Commission is an independent expert body, established by the General Assembly in 1974.<\/p>\n

Their work is divided into three areas \u2013 cost-of-living, salaries and allowances, and human resources policies.<\/p>\n

BILATERALS <\/strong><\/p>\n

Among his bilaterals today, the President will be meeting with Under-Secretary-General Ibrahim Thiaw, who is the Executive Secretary of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Convention to Combat Desertification<\/p>\n

The President will also meet today with Pedro Arrojo Agudo, the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights to Water.<\/p>\n

NOWRUZ<\/strong><\/p>\n

And today is the first day of spring.<\/p>\n

Today is also the International Day of Nowruz, marked by some 300 million people around the world.<\/p>\n

In his message for the Day, President K\u0151r\u00f6si says that \u201ctoday we user in a new year, bringing fresh life \u2013 the rebirth of nature after a long fall and winter. To apply our Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ terminology, we are using this beautiful opportunity to celebrate transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nowruz also stands as an inspiration to cherish the link between the human being and nature. To that end, the President will encourage the international community to make this a time to reaffirm our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n

Due to scheduling challenges, the remarks will be delivered by the President\u2019s Chef de Cabinet. Mr. L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Szoke.<\/p>\n
