\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SUDAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me start with a statement from the President of the General Assembly, Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si, on Sudan.<\/p>\n

The President strongly condemns the renewed outbreak of violence and fighting in Sudan.<\/p>\n

He expresses his deep regret for the loss of lives and injuries, including many civilians, humanitarian workers and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ staff.<\/p>\n

Any further escalations will have devastating effects on the country and the region.<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si joins the call by Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres on all Sudanese parties to immediately cease hostilities, and initiate dialogue without delay, in order to overcome differences and return to the path of democratic transition.<\/p>\n

The President stands ready to support any efforts to bring this situation to a peaceful conclusion.<\/p>\n

INDIGENOUS ISSUES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to today\u2019s program where Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues \u2013 which is an ECOSOC subsidiary body \u2013 opened in the past hour.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, President K\u0151r\u00f6si spoke about the interconnected crises the world is facing \u2013 and the intrinsically linked health of the planet and the health of the people.<\/p>\n

The President said that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ needs to the understand the factors impacting the health and well-being of indigenous peoples, to address these issues in a holistic and rights-based manner.<\/p>\n

The President noted that on 20 April, he will hold the third Interactive Hearing with Indigenous Peoples as mandated by the General Assembly, to enhance the participation of indigenous representatives and institutions in the work of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.<\/p>\n

The President said that he encouraged both the indigenous representatives and institutions and the Member States to explore how best to integrate the contributions of Indigenous scholars into our deliberations throughout the negotiating processes this session.<\/p>\n

FINANCING FOR DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also today\u2026<\/p>\n

President K\u0151r\u00f6si called for coordinated international efforts to tackle the deficiencies of the international development financial system.<\/p>\n

He noted three specific areas.<\/p>\n

One, he said the international financial architecture is deeply unjust. Quote – We must address the inequalities that corrode it.<\/p>\n

Two, he said that how we allocate funds doesn\u2019t support sustainable development, it actually does the opposite.<\/p>\n

Three, we are not measuring the impacts of how we finance, and too often spend on negative externalities that negatively impact sustainability.<\/p>\n

TUESDAY SCHEDULE<\/strong><\/p>\n

We expect the General Assembly to consider the Fifth Committee reports from the first resumed session.<\/p>\n

The General Assembly will also consider a draft decision to fix the dates for some of the high-level meetings during Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA week, so that might be of interest for your September planning purposes.<\/p>\n

And there will be a draft about the resumed session of the BBNJ, which as you know is related to the oceans and the law of the sea.<\/p>\n
