Before opening the floor for your interventions, please allow me to share with you some of my remarks, some of my impressions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">I fully agree with the Secretary-General\u2019s assessment that there is a pressing need for a real, transformative change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\">\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">I am particularly glad to see that the conclusions of the Report have been based on scientific evidence and data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">What the Secretary-General is offering in his report are solutions \u2013 however, not to change the goals, rather to change the approach, to change \u201cthe game\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\">\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">I am also in agreement with the Secretary-General when he strongly builds on our joint responsibility as well as on the responsible implementation of commitments at national levels<\/span><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">It has been clear so far but now it is absolutely visible that our traditional approach to the Voluntary National Reports and the conduct of the HLPF must be reevaluated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">We heard some suggestion that may not have been part of the traditional SDG conversation but are logically related to the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and rooted in it directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">We must take these recommendations very seriously. All those recommendations that can underpin the credibility of the political commitment that the second half of the implementation period will be more impact-oriented than the first half was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">I was pleased to see that the report addressed \u201cBeyond GDP\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">In my understanding, it can serve as a glue to bring together many of the necessary transformative elements that the Secretary-General spoke about.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">This report and the following discussion will surely help our co-facilitators present the zero draft of the political declaration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_li1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">And so, I thank the Secretary-General for his report, and I ask all the Member States to lend their support to the true transformative process and work with the PRs of Qatar and Ireland to make sure that we can produce not only a document, but a real shift for people and planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNoSpacing\">[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Csaba\u00a0K\u0151r\u00f6si,\u00a0President of the 77th\u00a0session of the General Assembly &#8212;- Informal meeting of the General Assembly to hear a briefing from the Secretary-General on his Special Edition report on \u2018Progress towards [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":361,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":"Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly\r\n\r\n----\r\n\r\nMessage on the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO)\r\n\r\n7 April 2023\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOn this World Health Day, I congratulate WHO on its 75th anniversary.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOver the course of its history, WHO has contributed to landmark achievements in public health, including the eradication of smallpox, the near eradication of polio and the expansion of childhood immunization, saving millions of lives.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nMore recently, WHO has played a key role in the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and helped galvanise the most complex vaccination campaign in history. Time and again, WHO has proved that investing in science lies at the heart of reaching our objective of a healthy and prosperous future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHowever, the pandemic has disrupted essential health services in most of the countries, shortened life expectancy, and halted progress towards universal health coverage.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHalfway through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we must redouble our efforts to achieve its goals. \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAs we prepare for the upcoming high-level meetings on health in the General Assembly, let us seize this opportunity to reconfirm our collective pledges and chart new pathways for a healthy and sustainable future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOn this day and every day, let us commit to achieve Health for All.","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[111],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-252466","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-statements","et-doesnt-have-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
