\u00a0<\/strong>SALT LAKE CITY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me start with a trip announcement.<\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si will travel to the United States state of Utah for an official visit starting on 14 May.<\/p>\n

While in Salt Lake City, he will meet with the Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson.<\/p>\n

He will also be briefed on the work that Salt Lake City and the state of Utah is doing in terms of water conservation and climate change.<\/p>\n

A big focus of the trip will also be on sustainable mountain development.<\/p>\n

And how local communities there are contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

The President will lecture at Utah Valley University, which is a school that is mentioned in the 2022 Secretary-General\u2019s report on Sustainable Mountain Development.<\/p>\n

The President will have an opportunity to hear about some of these projects, and actually see some of the work being done.<\/p>\n

The President has made an effort to visit with young people in New York, but also outside of the State. He has been to New Jersey, he\u2019ll be in Utah and there are other travels in the plans.<\/p>\n

The President will be back in the office on Wednesday, 17 May.<\/p>\n

The costs for this visit are covered by the OPGA Trust Fund.<\/p>\n

I will be traveling so I will not brief you here on Monday or Tuesday, but I\u2019ll be available online.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

MORNING DIALOGUE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turning to the President\u2019s schedule today\u2026<\/p>\n

This morning, he held a Morning Dialogue with about a dozen Permanent Representatives on rights and responsibilities for a world crisis. This was the continuation of a three-part discussion, that was started on 27 April.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s focus was on human rights.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SECURITY COÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵCIL\/GENERAL ASSEMBLY<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President then took part in a workshop on relations between the General Assembly and the Security Council, organized by the Permanent Missions of Ecuador and Portugal, and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵITAR.<\/p>\n

The President called the General Assembly and the Security Council complementary.<\/p>\n

He said that they may have different mandates, but they share one same fundamental goal – \u201cto save succeeding generations from the scourge of war\u201d.<\/p>\n

He mentioned several avenues of cooperation between the two Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ bodies.<\/p>\n

Among these, the consideration by the General Assembly of the Council\u2019s annual report, mandated by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter.<\/p>\n

That is scheduled for 30 June.<\/p>\n

And I will try to share the President\u2019s full remarks later today.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

PGA 78th<\/sup> SESSION CANDIDACY<\/strong><\/p>\n

This afternoon, starting at 3PM ET in the Trusteeship, there will be an interactive dialogue with the candidate for the Presidency of the 78th<\/sup> session.<\/p>\n

Mr. Dennis Francis, from Trinidad and Tobago, will deliver his vision statement and then take questions from Member States and civil society.<\/p>\n

The election for the new President will be on 1 June.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

BILATERALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among his bilaterals today, the President will meet today with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mami Mizutori.<\/p>\n

This is in context of next week\u2019s high-level meeting.<\/p>\n

He will have a meeting with Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, the Permanent Representative of India.<\/p>\n

The President will also be meeting with Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, the Permanent Representative of Singapore. This is in the context of the work of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

NEXT WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

And looking to next week\u2026<\/p>\n

The event of most interest to you is probably the high-level meeting on the midterm review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which be held on 18 and 19 May.<\/p>\n

I will include the program with my notes, but just to highlight\u2026<\/p>\n

The opening segment will be on Thursday at 10AM ET.<\/p>\n
