Excellencies,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nLadies and Gentlemen,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nFriends,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nOne of the United Nations\u2019 first ever major tasks was to find a just solution to the Middle East conflict.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nFor 75 years, the unresolved question of Palestine has lingered on the agenda of the General Assembly.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThose who came before us believed they would, within their lifetimes, witness the resolve of the conflict and a return to peace under the olive trees.<\/span><\/p>\nAnd I, as a young diplomat in the region decades ago, never thought that I would find myself leading the General Assembly in 2023, with the same open files on my desk, and with no real prospect of closing them.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nIn fact, I never would have thought that we could be no closer to a lasting two-state solution today than we were then.<\/span><\/p>\nIndeed, we are once again horrified by protracted violence and heightened tensions not seen in years.<\/span><\/p>\nThey gravely compromise the prospect of realizing our shared aspiration: two peoples with immense potential living in peace and harmony, ending decades of bitter conflict and the suffering of civilians on both sides.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nToday, we gather to recognize and reflect upon the pain and the trauma.<\/span><\/p>\nYet, we also come together to honor hope, resolve and spirit.<\/span><\/p>\nLike an olive tree in arid soil, the spirit of millions of Palestinians has been one of patience, persistence and resilience.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nToday, I reaffirm our commitment to Palestinians\u2019 right to live in dignity, with the full enjoyment of their human rights.<\/span><\/p>\nI further affirm the General Assembly\u2019s full respect of Palestinians\u2019 right to self-determination, to national sovereignty and to return.<\/span><\/p>\nThe Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ has been built on the understanding that all people on earth should live free of violence and threats.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cAll people\u201d includes Palestinians and Israelis alike.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nLet us harness this anniversary to breathe a new life into our quest for a solution: one that can guarantee lasting peace to a region that has already had to endure way too much.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nLet us recommit to dialogue and diplomacy.<\/span><\/p>\nLet us recommit to good faith, understanding and a vision that goes beyond tomorrow.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nLet us finally heal the wound of our collective conscience: the plight of the Palestinians.<\/span><\/p>\nI t<\/span>hank you.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Time and again, WHO has proved that investing in science lies at the heart of reaching our objective of a healthy and prosperous future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHowever, the pandemic has disrupted essential health services in most of the countries, shortened life expectancy, and halted progress towards universal health coverage.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHalfway through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we must redouble our efforts to achieve its goals. \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAs we prepare for the upcoming high-level meetings on health in the General Assembly, let us seize this opportunity to reconfirm our collective pledges and chart new pathways for a healthy and sustainable future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOn this day and every day, let us commit to achieve Health for All.","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[111],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-253245","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-statements","et-doesnt-have-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard"],"yoast_head":"\n
