Csaba\u00a0K\u0151r\u00f6si<\/em>,<\/em> President of the 77th<\/sup> session of the General Assembly<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n —-<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Convention of the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n 19 June 2023 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n (As delivered)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \n Madam Conference President,<\/p>\n Mr. Legal Adviser,<\/p>\n Excellencies,<\/p>\n Distinguished Delegates,<\/p>\n Good morning to you all in New York.<\/p>\n Good afternoon, Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n Good evening in Asia and Australia.<\/p>\n It is a great day.<\/p>\n It is a great honour to share this joyful and momentous occasion with you today.<\/p>\n I express my sincere thanks to all Member States on the imminent \u2013 and much anticipated \u2013 adoption of the BBNJ Agreement.<\/p>\n This landmark achievement bears witness to your collective commitment to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.<\/p>\n \n For its great contribution to this accomplishment, I express my heartfelt appreciation to the Office of the Legal Advisor, led by USG Miguel de Serpa Soares.<\/p>\n And, of course, let me acknowledge the remarkable Ambassador Rena Lee of Singapore, President of the Intergovernmental Conference, who captained our ship through this historic voyage.<\/p>\n Ambassador Lee\u2019s dedication and leadership is a shining example of the transformative power women bring to international processes.<\/p>\n \n Dear Friends,<\/p>\n The finalization of this Agreement is no small feat.<\/p>\n Over these last years, you recognized a common problem, you came together, you overcame your differences, and, together, you advanced transformative, sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n Solutions which are designed to protect our shared treasure \u2013 the environment.<\/p>\n Solutions that are aligned with the 2030 Agenda, including SDG 14.<\/p>\n And as a result, we have a new tool.<\/p>\n It complements the pivotal decisions aiming at global transformation: the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Program, the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework, and the Kunming-Montreal Protocol.<\/p>\n Together, you laid the foundation for a better stewardship of our seas, ensuring their survival for generations to come.<\/p>\n Ultimately, you succeeded in crafting an agreement that testifies to the power of multilateralism.<\/p>\n Let me extend once again my heartfelt congratulations to all Member States for the strength and determination you have shown.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Dear Friends,<\/p>\n Let\u2019s carry this momentum forward.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s continue working to protect our oceans, our planet, and all the people on it.<\/p>\n Thank you very much Madam President.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Csaba\u00a0K\u0151r\u00f6si, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly —- Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Convention of the Law of the Sea on […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":361,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":"Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly\r\n\r\n----\r\n\r\nMessage on the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO)\r\n\r\n7 April 2023\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOn this World Health Day, I congratulate WHO on its 75th anniversary.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOver the course of its history, WHO has contributed to landmark achievements in public health, including the eradication of smallpox, the near eradication of polio and the expansion of childhood immunization, saving millions of lives.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nMore recently, WHO has played a key role in the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and helped galvanise the most complex vaccination campaign in history. Time and again, WHO has proved that investing in science lies at the heart of reaching our objective of a healthy and prosperous future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHowever, the pandemic has disrupted essential health services in most of the countries, shortened life expectancy, and halted progress towards universal health coverage.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHalfway through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we must redouble our efforts to achieve its goals. \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAs we prepare for the upcoming high-level meetings on health in the General Assembly, let us seize this opportunity to reconfirm our collective pledges and chart new pathways for a healthy and sustainable future.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOn this day and every day, let us commit to achieve Health for All.","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[111],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-254273","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-statements","et-doesnt-have-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard"],"yoast_head":"\n
