Your Excellencies, Cornel\u00a0Feru\u021b\u0103 and Menissa\u00a0Rambally, Co-chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the Work of the General Assembly,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Under-Secretary-General,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

As the preamble to the Charter clearly reminds us, the United Nations was founded to foremost \u201csave succeeding generations from the scourge of war<\/i>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the purview in the maintenance of global peace and security falls primarily with the Security Council, Chapter IV of the Charter does also provide for a vital role for the General Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Above all, it is well established that the General Assembly is the principal deliberative, policymaking, and the most representative organ of this great organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a global Parliament of Humanity \u2013 with unparalleled inclusivity and universal representation of all 193 Member States of the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Member States, multiple observers and stakeholders immensely contribute to the work of the Assembly to implement the more than 170 items on its agenda every year \u2013 reinforcing our decision-making processes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, General Assembly resolutions \u2013 though not legally binding \u2013 represent the preponderant and well considered view of the wider Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ membership on a specific issue; as we have recently seen in the intricate cases of conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

On many occasions, I have therefore reminded the skeptics that resolutions of this august Assembly carry what some term a \u2018determinative power\u2019 and a moral authority \u2013 making their implementation so important.<\/span><\/p>\n

Often garnering the support of most of the Member States, this Assembly\u2019s resolutions allow the global community to be seen as speaking with a collective voice \u2013 carrying profound weight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let us recall for instance;<\/span><\/p>\n
