Mr. Dennis Francis, will travel to Doha, Qatar from May 1 to 3, 2024, to participate in the Annual Meeting of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCPGA).<\/p>\n<p>During his visit, the PGA will deliver a Keynote Address at the opening session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCPGA, focusing on, among others, the importance of a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-led multilateral system and the role of the General Assembly in addressing global crises.<\/p>\n<p>He will emphasize the importance of reinvigorated international cooperation, especially at this juncture of the myriad of interconnected challenges and heightened geopolitical tensions, which demand the rebuilding of trust and solidarity among Member States and closer collaboration across all actors in the international community at large.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA will kickstart the visit by delivering Opening Remarks at the first substantive session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCPGA meeting on the Summit of the Future. He will use this to highlight the significance of this Summit in supercharging implementation of the SDGs and renewing commitment to multilateralism.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA will also spotlight the critical issue of Sea-Level Rise in the context of climate change, which is among the Priorities of his Presidency, ahead of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly\u2019s mandated high-level meeting on the matter in September 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA intends to use the occasion of his visit to Doha to also engage in bilateral meetings with Dr. Han Seung-soo, Chair of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCPGA, and with Qatar\u2019s high-level leadership such as His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, as well as Her Excellency, Lolwah Rashid Al-Khater, Minister of State for International Cooperation, to reflect on the state of global affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The visit also provides an opportunity for the PGA to explore further collaboration and initiatives aimed at advancing the goals of the United Nations and the General Assembly. He also will underline the need to address the emergence of synthetic drugs, such as fentanyl, and the societal impacts of this ever-growing crisis.<\/p><p>While in Vienna, the PGA will hold separate bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria; and H.E. Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Council of Austria.<\/p><p>Furthermore, he will also hold separate meetings with H.E. Mr. Philbert Abaka Johnson, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ghana to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOV, Chair of the 67<sup>th<\/sup> session of the CND; H.E. Mr. Ivo \u0160ramek, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Czechia to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOV, Chair of the 33<sup>rd<\/sup> session of the CCPCJ; Ms. Ghada Waly, Director-General of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOV and Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵODC; Mr. Gerd Mueller, Director General of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIDO; and Mr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of CTBTO.<\/p><p>The PGA will also use the opportunity of his visit to deliver a lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, the oldest of its kind in the world, to engage academia and civil society on the work of the United Nations and the General Assembly.<\/p><p>The PGA\u2019s delegation to Vienna includes his Deputy Chef de Cabinet, a Senior Political Affairs Adviser as well as a Communications Adviser.<\/p><p>From Vienna, the President of the General Assembly will travel to <strong>Baku<\/strong>, Azerbaijan, to attend the 11<sup>th<\/sup> Global Baku Forum from 15 to 16 March 2024.<\/p><p>The PGA will deliver a special address on the Forum\u2019s theme \u2018<em>Fixing a Fractured World\u2019<\/em>, emphasizing the need for unity, solidarity, dialogue, and diplomacy to address ongoing geopolitical tensions; and with a view to restore the multilateral system as well as international cooperation.<\/p><p>He will also participate in a panel discussion on the objectives that can be set for the 2024 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Climate Change Conference <strong>(Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵFCCC, COP29)<\/strong> to be held in Baku at the end of 2024.<\/p><p>During his official visit to Azerbaijan, the PGA will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and also hold bilateral meetings with H.E. Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova, Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr. Elnur Soltanov, Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 Presidency.<\/p><p>The PGA\u2019s delegation to Baku includes his Chef de Cabinet, a Special Adviser on the Summit of the Future, a Deputy Team Leader of the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Team, as well as a Communications Adviser.<\/p><p>Travel
