box_shadow_blur_tablet=&#8221;40px&#8221; box_shadow_spread_tablet=&#8221;0px&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>PRESS BRIEFING <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>BY MONICA GRAYLEY,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>SPOKESPERSON FOR\u00a0GENERAL ASSEMBLY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>PRESIDENT DENNIS FRANCIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>United Nations Headquarters, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">10 May 2024<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/3WDpWJRnVno\">Video link<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Good afternoon, everyone!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL ASSEMBLY ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS TO THE Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵITED NATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This morning, the General Assembly adopted draft resolution A\/ES-10\/L.30\/Rev.1 during the Tenth Emergency Special Session, Agenda item 5 \u201cIllegal Israeli actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The text entitled \u201cAdmission of New Members to the United Nations\u201d was introduced by the United Arab Emirates, and co-sponsored by over 70 Member States obtained 143 votes in favour, 9 against, and 25 abstentions.<\/p>\n<p>In his opening remarks, before the vote, the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, urged \u201cthe parties to this conflict \u2013 with the support of those with leverage \u2013 to do their utmost to secure an agreement of ceasefire that will end the suffering, end the bloodshed, free all hostages, protect innocent civilians and ensure immediate, unhindered access of humanitarian aid, without conditions, for all who are in dire need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The PGA\u2019s remarks were followed by a speech of the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates, H.E, Mr. Mohamed Abushahab, the Palestinian Representative, H.E. Mr. Riyad Mansour, and the Permanent Representative of Israel, H.E. Mr. Gilad Erdan.<\/p>\n<p>The list has 120 speakers inscribed. The meeting will end today at 6 p.m. and most possibly will continue Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PGA DELIVERS VIDEO MESSAGE FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ARGANIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, the United Nations marks the International Day of Argania. The PGA issued a video message celebrating the novelty of this ancient tree for a brighter future \u2013 to also advance the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.<\/p>\n<p>The International Day of Argania was proclaimed by the General Assembly in 2021 at the initiative by the Kingdom of Morocco recognizing the important role of the Argan tree in achieving sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>The Argan tree \u2013 endemic to Morocco \u2013 is a unique backbone to the ecosystem.
