I will now read the following short remarks on behalf of the President of the General Assembly:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/em><\/p>\n

Regrettably once again, this General Assembly meeting is convened under the so-called \u201cveto initiative\u201d \u2013 as the divisions in the Security Council persist and hinder the Council\u2019s ability to effectively discharge its responsibilities.<\/p>\n

I welcome the timely submission of the special report of the Security Council on the veto cast in the Council on 18 April 2024 \u2013 reinforcing collaboration between the Security Council and the General Assembly, within their respective mandates and\u00a0in their shared duty to promote global peace and security.<\/p>\n

In this regard, I encourage you to use today\u2019s discussion as an opportunity to deliberate on how the two main organs of the United Nations \u2013 the General Assembly and the Security Council \u2013 can work together to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.<\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly will continue the practice of providing a short summary of the plenary debate to the President of the Security Council.<\/p>\n
