Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, who died on 19 May in a helicopter crash, in the East Azerbaijan province in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>In his opening remarks, the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA also recalled the late Foreign Minister of Iran, H.E. Hossein Amirabdollahian, who died in the crash with other members of the President\u2019s delegation.<\/p>\n<p>The speech by President Francis was followed by remarks delivered by the Secretary-General, Mr. Ant\u00f3nio Guterres.<\/p>\n<p>Regional groups also took the floor to deliver statements.<\/p>\n<p>As per a General Assembly practice, the plenary meeting to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased President of Iran is the third such meeting in the current session.<\/p>\n<p>The first was a tribute to the late Emir of Kuwait, H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away on 16 December 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In February, this year, the GA held a tribute to the memory of the former President of Namibia, H.E. Hage Gottfried Geingob, who died on 4 February.<\/p>\n<p>More information on the PGA\u2019s website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/78\">www.un.org\/pga\/78<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>HIGH-LEVEL POLICY DIALOGUE: \u201cEDUCATION THROUGH SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION TOWARD THE AFRICA WE WANT\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This afternoon, PGA Dennis Francis will speak at the High-Level Policy Dialogue entitled \u201cEducation through Science, Technology and Innovation toward the Africa We Want,\u201d as part of the 2024 Africa Dialogue Series.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), Under-Secretary-General, Ms. Cristina Duarte.<\/p>\n<p>The Africa Dialogue Series culminates with a High-level Policy Dialogue that contributes towards policymaking and serves as a platform for in-depth exchanges to produce forward-looking and implementable ideas and recommendations toward accelerating Africa\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>The event gathers decision-makers, academics, young people and representatives of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and of civil society.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, by 2050, one in every four people \u2013 and more than a third of the world\u2019s young people aged 15-24 \u2013 are expected to be African.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PGA HONOURS SACRIFICE AND COMMITMENT OF PEACEKEEPERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PGA issued a post on his X social media account marking this International Day of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Peacekeepers, which took place yesterday, stating that Peacekeepers \u201care the embodiment of the promise of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter: to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PGA Francis invited all to recognize the commitment and bravery of the 76,000 peacekeepers from 120 countries, deployed in 11 global operations, and to honour their sacrifice and recommit to our collective commitment to peace around the world.<\/p>\n<p>On the PGA\u2019s agenda this afternoon, he will receive students from Johns Hopkins University, which is the PGA\u2019s alma mater.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you. Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, spoke this morning, at the opening of the High-level Panel on Public accessibility and inclusivity: developing strategic initiatives to raise awareness on the role of and work of Ombudsman and mediator institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights, good governance and the rule of law.<\/p><p>In his remarks, the PGA highlighted the relevance of Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions as \u201cguardians of human rights and as enablers of accountability and transparency for good governance.\u201d<\/p><p>President Francis added that they ensure that public authorities adhere to legal and highest ethical standards, forming an integral aspect of \u201cour ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals\u201d.<\/p><p>The high-level panel Francis will deliver remarks in a meeting to mark World Football Day which will take place each 25<sup>th<\/sup> of May, starting this year.<\/p><p>The resolution, introduced by Libya, was adopted by the General Assembly by consensus on 7 May.<\/p><p>This year, the world marks the 100<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the first international football tournament in history as part of the 1924 Summer Olympic Games.<\/p><p>The PGA emphasizes the universal role of football which transcends borders and has the power to bring people together.<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>PGA TO SPEAK AT INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE ON MIGRATION<\/strong><\/p><p>The President of the General Assembly will take part, later today, in the 2024 International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) which opened on Tuesday, 21 May.<\/p><p>The first session of the Dialogue is taking place under the theme \u201cFacilitating regular pathways to a better future: harnessing the power of migration\u201d.<\/p><p>The meeting is focusing on how to create better opportunities for people in the move in face of the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.<\/p><p>According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are at least 281 million migrants in the world, which equates to 3.6 per cent of the global population or one in 30 persons.<\/p><p>The PGA will
