The resolution aims to enhance international and regional cooperation to prevent and mitigate the negative effects of those storms especially in countries which are affected.<\/p>\n<p>The text also highlights that sand and dust storms \u201ccause numerous human health problems\u201d especially in arid, semi-arid and other areas, and \u201cthere is a need to reinforce protective strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Convention to Combat Desertification (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCCD), sand and dust storms are \u201can underappreciated problem\u201d that has become more frequent in some places, with at least 25% of global dust activities originating from human activities.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, GA Resolution 77\/294 proclaimed 12 July as International Day of Combatting Sand and Dust Storms, to be observed annually.<\/p>\n<p>The draft resolution was adopted by consensus at the 98th plenary meeting which was chaired by the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, at the GA Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA is back in the office after returning from his mission trips to Ukraine, Latvia, and Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL ASSEMBLY PROCLAIS FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RELFECTION OF 1995 GENOCIDE IN SREBRENICA MARKED IN THE GA HALL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For you diaries: tomorrow, the first International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica will be marked in the GA Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., following the adoption of Resolution 78\/282 in May, designating 11 July as the International Day.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, will deliver remarks as well as other Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ officials, Permanent Representatives, and a survivor of the Srebrenica genocide.<\/p>\n<p>The event is being organized by the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PGA TO PRESIDE OVER Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA PLEDGING CONFERENCE ON 12 JULY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Friday, 12 July, President Francis will convene a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/78\/unrwa-pledging-conference-2024\/\">meeting<\/a> of the Ad Hoc Committee of the General Assembly for the Announcement of Voluntary Contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA).<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place on 12 July, at 10 a.m., in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.<\/p>\n<p>The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA Pledging Conference is a unique opportunity for Member States to financially support Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA&#8217;s mandate through substantial contributions.<\/p>\n<p>President Francis is encouraging philanthropic organizations, private sector, and the public, with individual donations, to contribute to the agency\u2019s cause.<\/p>\n<p>After the event, the Commissioner General of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA, Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, will speak to you at this Press Briefing Room.<\/p>\n<p>We will let you know more details as we receive them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is everything we have for today. Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, spoke this morning, at the opening of the High-level Panel on Public accessibility and inclusivity: developing strategic initiatives to raise awareness on the role of and work of Ombudsman and mediator institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights, good governance and the rule of law.<\/p><p>In his remarks, the PGA highlighted the relevance of Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions as \u201cguardians of human rights and as enablers of accountability and transparency for good governance.\u201d<\/p><p>President Francis added that they ensure that public authorities adhere to legal and highest ethical standards, forming an integral aspect of \u201cour ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals\u201d.<\/p><p>The high-level panel Francis will deliver remarks in a meeting to mark World Football Day which will take place each 25<sup>th<\/sup> of May, starting this year.<\/p><p>The resolution, introduced by Libya, was adopted by the General Assembly by consensus on 7 May.<\/p><p>This year, the world marks the 100<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the first international football tournament in history as part of the 1924 Summer Olympic Games.<\/p><p>The PGA emphasizes the universal role of football which transcends borders and has the power to bring people together.<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>PGA TO SPEAK AT INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE ON MIGRATION<\/strong><\/p><p>The President of the General Assembly will take part, later today, in the 2024 International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) which opened on Tuesday, 21 May.<\/p><p>The first session of the Dialogue is taking place under the theme \u201cFacilitating regular pathways to a better future: harnessing the power of migration\u201d.<\/p><p>The meeting is focusing on how to create better opportunities for people in the move in face of the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.<\/p><p>According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are at least 281 million migrants in the world, which equates to 3.6 per cent of the global population or one in 30 persons.<\/p><p>The PGA will deliver remarks alongside the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Amy Pope, and the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), H.E.
