This\u00a0 opportunity offers a unique, in-depth look at the workings of one of the world’s leading diplomatic forums.<\/p>\n One of the students, Mr. Erik Ponomarev, 16 years old, is from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, and the other student, Ms. Fariha Akter, 15 years old, attends the\u00a0Bronx Center\u00a0for Science and Mathematics in the Bronx.<\/p>\n We will post more information as the day progresses on Thursday across the PGA\u2019s social media channels and on his YouTube channel https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPGA78<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n PGA EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS OF CO-CHAIRS AT SUMMIT OF THE FUTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n PGA Dennis Francis has sent a letter to Chairs of the Regional Groups extending a deadline until the end of today on nominations of co-chairs at Heads of State or Government for the interactive dialogues to be held in parallel to the plenary segment of the Summit of the Future.<\/p>\n Mr. Francis\u2019s correspondence follows his letter of 26 July calling for the nominations which should be made through respective regional groups. The interactive dialogues will be held on 22 and 23 September for the entire day.<\/p>\n Interactive Dialogue 1 on 22 September (10 a.m.-1 p.m) will discuss: Transforming global governance and turbocharging the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.\u00a0<\/p>\n Interactive Dialogue 2 will take place on the same day from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Enhancing multilateralism for international peace and security.<\/p>\n On 23 September, Interactive Dialogue 3 (from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) will be entitled: Towards a Common Digital Future: strengthening inclusive innovation and cooperation to bridge the digital divides.<\/p>\n The day will conclude with Interactive Dialogue 4 (3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m) on \u201cThe Future Starts Now: enhancing the global system for current and future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n Each dialogue will be co-chaired by two Heads of State or Government to be nominated through their respective regional groups, with due regard to geographical balance and gender parity.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n PRESIDENT FRANCIS TO SPEAK TO THE PRESS ON FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE ON 9 SEPTEMBER<\/strong><\/p>\n The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, will hold a Press Conference on Monday, 9 September, from 11a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Press Conference Briefing Room. Mr. Francis will take part in the opening segment alongside the Secretary-General of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, Mr. Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, the President of the 79th Session, Mr. Phil\u00e9mon Yang, and a representative of a Member State affected by adverse effects of sea-level rise.<\/p> The multistakeholder panels will start at 10:30 a.m. with a debate on \u201csea-level rise and its legal dimension\u201d, which will be followed by \u201cadaptation, finance, and resilience in relation to sea-level rise\u201d.<\/p> The third panel, which takes place at 3 p.m. will discuss \u201clivelihoods, socio-economic challenges, and culture and heritage in relation to sea-level rise\u201d followed by the last debate on \u201cknowledge, data and science to inform sea-level rise risk assessments and decision making\u201d.<\/p> The accelerating pace of sea-level rise is increasingly impacting coastal states. Many developing countries, especially Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) lack the needed financial resources and technical capacity to anticipate the impacts.<\/p> One of the panels will address the specific vulnerabilities of women and girls to sea-level rise and promoting their equal participation in adaptation planning and implementation.<\/p> The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that, by 2050, global sea levels will rise between 15 and 30 centimetres, on average, with greater increases expected in equatorial regions, particularly the Pacific.<\/p> Close to one billion people living in low-lying coastal zones will be directly affected due to rising sea levels and climate impacts.<\/p> More information on the PGA\u2019s website www.un.org\/pga\/78<\/a>.<\/p>
