Good afternoon, everyone,?
The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly, H.E. Philemon Yang, is now in Nairobi, Kenya after attending the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In Nairobi, he will meet with the President of the Republic of Kenya, other Government officials as well as senior officials within the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ System. The President will be there until 22 February before continuing to Geneva for the High-level segment of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council.??
At Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Headquarters here this week, on Thursday 20th February, there will be a thematic debate on the selection and appointment of the Secretary-General and other executive heads at the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly. This takes place in the ECOSOC Chamber at 10 am.?
Also, on Thursday, there will be intergovernmental consultations on the high-level meeting on the Global Plan of Action to combat trafficking in persons in the Trusteeship Council at 10:00 am.? (date)?
There will also be informal consultations on the high-level meeting to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women on that day at 3 pm.?
Next week??
Next Monday 24th February, the 20th plenary meeting of the eleventh emergency session of the General Assembly will be held in the General Assembly Hall.??
Intergovernmental consultations on the declaration for the 2025 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Ocean Conference also continue on Monday.?
On Wednesday 26 February, there will be informal consultations on the World Summit on the Information Society at 10 am.??
At 3 pm, there will informal consultations on the high-level meeting to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.?
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 February, there will be informal meetings of the plenary on the intergovernmental negotiations on the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Council.?
The Nelson Mandela Prize?
And just a reminder regarding the Nelson Mandela Prize.? The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ is calling for nominations for the 2025 United Nations Nelson Mandela Prize.? The deadline for online nominations is soon approaching – 28 February 2025.???
As you may be aware, the Prize is awarded every five years to two individuals (one female and one male), in recognition of their dedicated service to humanity, by promoting the purposes and principles of the United?Nations.? It also honours Nelson Mandela¡¯s legacy of reconciliation, political transition and social transformation.?
