Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly <\/strong><\/p>\n

on the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

The President of the United Nations General Assembly welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.\u00a0He thanks all those who have been involved in brokering the cease-fire.<\/p>\n

This ceasefire\u00a0comes after more than one year of hostilities, thousands of deaths, widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and the displacement of large populations on both sides of the Blue Line.<\/p>\n

The President of the United Nations General Assembly calls on all parties to fully respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement and\u00a0to work towards\u00a0the\u00a0full\u00a0implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) to ensure lasting\u00a0security and stability for the people of Israel and Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The President of the United Nations General Assembly calls for continuous dialogue for a durable solution to peace and security in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
