Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly on ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The end of the war in Gaza has been long overdue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He commends\u00a0Qatar, the United States and Egypt for brokering the ceasefire agreement. He calls on all parties to fully respect and implement the terms of the agreement. The ceasefire must hold firm and lead to a lasting\u00a0halt of the fighting.<\/p>\n

In the past 15 months,\u00a0tens of thousands of civilians have died,\u00a0millions have been displaced\u00a0and\u00a0civilian\u00a0infrastructure has been\u00a0massively destroyed\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0The killing and maiming of civilians must stop.\u00a0All\u00a0the remaining hostages must be released. Humanitarian\u00a0organizations\u00a0must immediately be given full, safe and unhindered access to deliver badly needed assistance\u00a0in large scale\u00a0to the civilian population in Gaza.\u00a0Displaced\u00a0Palestinians must be able to return home.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly stresses that\u00a0the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved through endless violence and occupation.\u00a0The international community\u00a0must take meaningful action towards the realization of a two-State solution in accordance with international law, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter and relevant Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ resolutions.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General<\/strong>\u00a0Assembly\u00a0<\/strong>underscores the importance of\u00a0the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which will take place in June 2025.<\/p>\n
