Excellencies,<\/p>\n

Distinguished delegates,<\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0It is a privilege to convene this briefing ahead of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Brazil.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let me express my appreciation to Ambassador Andr\u00e9 Aranha Corr\u00eaa do Lago, President-designate of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference for this timely briefing on preparations and priorities as we look to the Conference.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Brazil\u2019s effort to engage Member States at this early stage reflects the spirit of multilateralism- one that strengthens our collective efforts in addressing this urgent challenge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This year marks an important juncture in our global response to climate change. As the 30th United Nations Climate Conference returns to Brazil, where the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Framework Convention on Climate Change was first signed in 1992, we must seize this moment to reflect and renew our commitment to action.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The outcome of the 2024 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan made it clear\u2014the world needs to take more action and commitments on adaptation, mitigation, and finance.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Emissions continue to rise, temperatures continue to increase, and the effects of climate change are becoming more severe.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This Conference is an opportunity to build on the outcomes of the previous Conferences and reinvigorate climate action.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The upcoming third generation of Nationally Determined Contributions will be paramount to this effort and have the potential to re-energize climate action. \u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is an opportunity for nations to lead with ambition while ensuring contributions remain achievable.<\/p>\n

Contributions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

Contributions that empower the most vulnerable with the tools needed to adapt and thrive.<\/p>\n

Contributions that put in place the resources and finances needed to effectively address this global challenge. \u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And most importantly, we need Nationally Determined Contributions that keep us on track to achieve the temperature goals set out in the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

C\u2019est l\u00e0 l\u2019essence de l\u2019Accord de Paris et l\u2019esprit du multilat\u00e9ralisme.<\/p>\n

Dans le m\u00eame temps, l\u2019ambition doit se traduire par des actions concr\u00e8tes. Nous avons d\u00e9pass\u00e9 le stade des beaux discours et des d\u00e9clarations \u00e9loquentes. Le monde a besoin de r\u00e9sultats tangibles.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Le Nouvel Objectif Collectif Quantifi\u00e9 de 300 milliards de dollars par an est un pas dans cette direction. \u00c0 l\u2019avenir, il devra \u00eatre enti\u00e8rement respect\u00e9 pour que ces ressources puissent parvenir, en temps voulu, \u00e0 ceux qui en ont le plus besoin.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Il est \u00e9galement essentiel que ces fonds restent additionnels et ne d\u00e9tournent pas les ressources d\u00e9di\u00e9es aux efforts plus larges de d\u00e9veloppement durable.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

L\u2019action climatique et le d\u00e9veloppement doivent avancer de pair, et nous devons nous assurer que les ressources sont mobilis\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re efficace et \u00e9quitable pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 ces deux priorit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n
