Your Majesty the King of Spain,<\/p>\n

Your Excellency, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, President of the Government of Spain,<\/p>\n

Esteemed Heads of State and Government,<\/p>\n

United Nations Secretary-General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is an honour to address the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I thank the Government and people of Spain for hosting us in Seville.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Despite the challenges the world face, we meet today at a determining point in history.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Both for the United Nations, now in its eightieth year, and for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is central to achieving the United Nations\u2019 most foundational aims.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are at a unique moment to take the actions necessary to realise our aspirations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We have both challenges and opportunities. First and foremost, we need to renew trust in multilateralism with the United Nations at its centre.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And secondly, we must lay the necessary groundwork to fully achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And to do so, we need,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The political will of all of us gathered today,<\/p>\n

Global solidarity across peoples and nations,<\/p>\n

The financial resources that exist and can be channelled towards progress,<\/p>\n

but above all, we need leadership.<\/p>\n

We need Leadership, to guide us forward into a brighter, more prosperous future for everyone, everywhere.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is what this Conference is about.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your Excellencies,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are now just five years away from the 2030 deadline to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yet, the gap to finance them remains vast.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Global financing needs have grown dramatically since 2015.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is especially true for developing countries, which require $4.2 trillion annually to close the financing gap.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These developing countries are walking a tightrope between<\/p>\n
