Readout of the President of the General Assembly¡¯s Meeting with H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations and President of the United Nations Security Council [June 2025]

The President of the General Assembly H.E. Philemon Yang met H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations?to the United Nations?on 28 May 2025.?

The President of the General Assembly and the Ambassador discussed the programme of work for Guyana¡¯s upcoming Presidency of the United Nations Security Council, which begins on 01 June 2025. The Ambassador briefed the President of the General Assembly on mandated meetings and a signature event on ¡°Poverty, Underdevelopment, and Conflict: Implications for the Maintenance of International Peace and Security¡± that would take place during June at the Security Council. They further discussed other key events scheduled for June at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ such as a mandated meeting of ECOSOC and the PBC which would focus on Haiti, as well as meeting the President of the General Assembly was convening to commemorate the 80^th?anniversary of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter.?

The President and Ambassador further discussed the importance of coordination and collaboration across Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ organs, including in the context of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ 80 initiative. They agreed on the importance of the meetings of the Presidents of the General Assembly, Security Council, and Economic and Social Council hat have taken place during the 79^th?session of the General Assembly.?
