General Assembly to Commemorate Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter Day
New York, 24 June 2026 ¨C On Friday, 26 June 2026 at 10:00 a.m., the General Assembly will celebrate the United Nations Charter Day under the theme ¡°Better Together: One Charter, One Future.¡±
The opening segment will include remarks by President of the General Assembly Annalena Baerbock and Secretary?General Ant¨®nio Guterres, followed by a keynote address by Ms. Mariam Solika, United Nations Youth Office Young Leader for the SDGs and Founder and CEO of THE GOOD NEWS.
¡°The Charter remains our shared foundation and our shared responsibility,¡± the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Annalena Baerbock, emphasized.
¡°This commemoration is not only a moment of reflection ¨C it is a call to action. Member States from all regions need to come together and form a cross-regional alliance to protect and uphold the principles and purposes of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter.
¡°At a time when the Charter and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ itself are under heavy pressure, commemoration means sharing the good stories. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ is delivering every day on the promise of the Charter from conflict prevention to peacebuilding to humanitarian aid. Yet, in a digital age when negative news and hate spread at lightning speed, the war that is prevented and the famine that never happens don¡¯t make headlines.¡±
¡°But, without the work of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and its agencies, funds, and programmes millions of children would not be in school, millions of people would not receive lifesaving aid in conflict zones. So, today is also about telling the positive stories and highlighting that there is no single day in which the world would be better off without the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ with the Charter at its core.¡±
Run of show: The meeting will take place in the General Assembly Hall at United Nations Headquarters. After official speeches, youth representatives from local schools in New York City will jointly read the Preamble of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter in all six official languages of the United Nations.
The General Assembly Hall will also be brought to life through an immersive visual presentation, with projections of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter in all six official languages appearing across the walls and written in real time, creating a powerful aesthetic tribute to the Charter¡¯s enduring relevance.
Member States and Observers will then deliver statements during the plenary segment.
Media Moment: Ahead of the meeting, at 9:45 a.m., the President of the General Assembly and the Secretary?General will jointly sign the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ80 Charter on the stage in the General Assembly Hall.

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ80 Charter has been available for signature by Permanent Representatives since 8 June as a symbolic reaffirmation of the collective commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter.
