Civil Society Forum at the Second World Summit for Social Development

Ms Deputy Secretary General,<\/p>\n

President of ECOSOC,<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

Minister,<\/p>\n

But most of all, representatives of the civil society Roberto Bissio and Gillian D\u2019Souza Nazareth,<\/p>\n

In Morocco, local women\u2019s cooperatives are working hand-in-hand with the Government and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP to harvest, produce, and sell argan oil \u2014 a surging commodity that has transformed communities and created lasting livelihoods.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Cameroon, an academic institution from India has partnered with the Government and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to train rural women to install and operate solar panels.<\/p>\n

They now proudly call them the \u201cSolar Mamas.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Across every region, in every country, there are thousands of such transformational initiatives \u2014 spanning women\u2019s economic empowerment, green energy, inclusive digitalization, and so much more.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The common thread?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They are locally driven and community-led.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are so many, in fact, that even keeping track is a challenge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thankfully, innovation is also rising to meet this need.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Monday, here at the same theater, at the Solutions Forum here in Doha, one project stood out: the Global Action Mosaic.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Led by Humanitarian Tracker \u2014 a network of volunteers and grassroots organizations \u2014 this initiative is using crowdsourcing and artificial intelligence to map and amplify SDG breakthroughs worldwide, especially those led by civil society.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their aim is bold: within five years, to connect more than one million citizen-led initiatives across at least 75 countries \u2014 building shared data, shared learning, and shared visibility.<\/p>\n

A true mosaic of local action \u2014 from youth empowerment to gender equality \u2014 powered by people, grounded in communities, and driven by data.<\/p>\n

And living up to the theme of the 80th<\/sup> session that we are indeed \u2018Better Together\u2019.<\/p>\n

If we learn from each other. If we work with each other.<\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

It is therefore an honour to join you in opening the Civil Society Forum at this Second World Social Summit.<\/p>\n

As the examples illustrate, when we work together \u2014 when we trust communities and invest in their ingenuity \u2014 extraordinary things happen.<\/p>\n

And across the world, the record tells that story.<\/p>\n
